How can you get a sensor -for a reasonable price that is, not $45 and then almost the same amount again on postage and packing?

If you can build them yourself, what parts do you need/which accelerometers are accepted by this project?

The client itself runs now on my Beaglebone Black -wanting another 9936 hours after logging some 89- but lacks the sensor.
Guess I could try to get a Beaglebone-to-Arduino cape and add an accelerometer on that cape.
Main problem is that Beaglebone parts/add-ons are as scarce as hen's teeth over here....

Hmmmm, I gues this might help (http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/Grove-Cape-for-BeagleBone-Series-p-1718.html), especially when augmented with this (http://www.seeedstudio.com/wiki/Grove_-_3-Axis_Digital_Accelerometer%28%C2%B116g%29):
