My uncle has a new 3200+ for me to replace my current 2500+, not sure if it'll make that much difference, but anyway, I took the cover off and had a look at the heatsink. Then I thought, how the hell do I get this off?
I had a look on google, but I can't find anything. Anyone got any instructions/hints/tips that could help me?

Are you sure the board will support it? The 3200 is 400mhz, and the 2500 is 333.
Here are some decent pictures: http://www.crazypc.com/articles/hsfinstall.htm

Great find chaz.
You are right, that is a great tasksheet.

off topic - the T-shirts are cool too :)

Hey I have that "No I will not fix your computer" t-shirt. I also have one that says "I read your e-mail". My wife won't let me wear them in public, cause she says they make me look like a dork. I have to keep reminding her that I am a dork.

There's a bunch of sweet t-shirts at www.thinkgeek.com

Thanks for that, I'm sure the board will support it as I got a BIOS upgrade that says it supports 400MHz... motherboard is an Albatron KM18G Pro (or I sure hope so :P).

dont know if this still applies or you solved it alredy but i tend to use a flat bladed screwdriver to hit the bit of metal holding it in. It shold then "pop" out and you can take it off revealing the CPU below.

bofore you pull it out, unless you have plans for it, i have my 2500+ on a 400fsb, everything else left alone.
- it runs fine as a 3200+ now.
:)

addit:
oops, so long as it is also a barton.

I was thinking of overclocking, but I'm not sure that I could keep it cool... and as well as that, I don't think this is a barton core....

Look at this site and see if you can find the core code numbers :

There were some 2600 and 2800 TBred B's as well as Bartons, but as far as I know all 2500's, 3000's and 3200's are Bartons.
I forgot to mention your 3200 will need PC3200 or higher DDR.

no problem keeping it cool, like i say, i changed nothing else.
been like this for what, 2 years now? well at least a year.

memory of 400 mhz may not be a must, depending on motherboard. (bios)

just check the cache size for barton verification.

i don't see it as overclcock'ed, more like no longer under-clocked 3200+.

Hmm ok thanks for that, I didn't know that I should have PC3200 RAM, great a whole gig of PC2700 that I just bought becomes almost useless :P

PC2700 is 166mhz, your 3200 runs 200mhz fsb....
Meckano has a point though, depending on your board,if you have dividers in the bios you may be able to run the CPU at 200fsb and keep the ram at 166.
Not the best way to go though

Another option you could try if you dont have the divider, is to run that 3200 at 166x12,12.5,13 and keep your pc2700....
Again given your bios options it may or may not be possible. You'd be slower than the 3200, but faster than the stocker 2500.
