Found a new BOINC project, called Rosetta@Home (http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/), that is for protein design and interaction. Looks like another complimentary project to Folding@Home and Predictor@Home. If you like biological science projects, looks like your in luck. I'm already joined, but we don't have a team yet. :(

Update: If you join, don't worry bout the fact that BOINC claims the WU will take over 200 hours to complete with a week deadline, it should finish in about 15-20 hours on modern CPU. Also, the minimum system requirements are 500 mhtz cpu and 256 ram with 200 mb's of free harddrive space.

Thanks outlawolf. I'll put it up in my list.

Can our admins create us a team there quickly? :)

Done (though I'm not admin ^_^). http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/create_account_form.php?teamid=19

Did you see Housing and Food Services list of computers? 244 cpu's and one whale of a start.

I'M IN :D

I'm in too.

I'll add it to the stats when some scores get posted. There are an aweful lot of teams with a ZERO score

Let's see what happens.

I should be sending back one workunit tonight... let's see how long it takes to be validated...

Hej!

Is this project used for AMD`s?

If you mean about the project being optimized for AMD's I don't know... probably has no optimization for processors. But I have seen people saying that it runs much better under linux.

And I have to cancel my plans of sending back the workunit tonight. :-( It was crunching great but now that it reached 66% the percentage stopped. So I don't know how long it will take now until it finishes...

According to the BOINC forums, BOINC is optimized for Intel CPUs and Microsoft OS. :-( On the Linux side it works great if you recompile the program. If you don't recompile then the program thinks you have a slower computer then you really do. So the program might be idle while waiting for more work on your next update and your average credit score is way too low.

On the plus side. I just completed AMD users first work unit for this project. :wav:

Congrats daddygeek! :D

May sound stupid, but does this resume after you quit? I ask because I read on their forums about something not resuming after you quit.

daddygeek

I don't know what you mean by resume after you quit? I noticed a new work unit downloaded when I was about 80% complete. And it just continued on to that new work unit.

PS. my computer is now number three in the top computers.   YES

Congrats again.

Nevermind about that question. How fast is your computer and how long did it take? I have a 1.4GHz running it and am wondering how long it will take.

daddygeek

I believe it took around 19 hours. After around 66% It just started going slower and slower and slower. And around 93%, I noticed the completion time was moving backwards about one second every 10 seconds. but it did finish, and now AMD users is in fifth place. :D

PS. 3700+ OC to around 4000

Hmmm... I turned BOINC back on just now and the WU crashed. It was crunching a few hours ago before i turned it off.

Does Rosetta have problems with the WU restarting? :?

What do you mean by turning it on and off? Don't you leave it up and running 24/7.
I do like the " computer is overcommitted"

They are saying, not to shut down the manager! it looks like the unit will complete but will not give you all the credit that you deserve.

No, I turn it off at times. I'm 14. But I do leave my computer on overnight, though I may have to stop it soon. My parents are concerned with the electricity bill rise in August. My computer was on for almost the whole month.

Guess I'll have to stay away from rosetta if they say not to close the client. Sorry team. :-(

Good thing our powerplant uses coal. Running six computers 24/7, and one of them is a quad server.
I don't have to worry about heating my office in the winter.

Well I just upgraded to an X2 3800+ in one machine, and I'd like to give it a fresh start to see what it can do. So, a little time on Rosetta should do the trick. :)

EDIT: Whoa!! 87hr estimated for 1 WU? is that right? Nevermind, I can't read. :P

EDIT AGAIN: I'm thinking you'll be seeing me in the #1 computer spot (RAC).... its mine... my precious. :P

You go for it =D<
With the X2 you might have a chance after some overclocking.
1. A X2 4200 with 2gig ram

I am going after position two.
2. It's just a Intel 2.8 with 1 gig ram

I'm running at a couple of hours in linux on work units.

Best of luck to ya! :)

My X2 is running @ 2.7GHz. :) I was just looking at the benches of Ethan's 4200 and both numbers are about 1000 less than mine. :P

Unfortunately this is gonna kill my Einstein RAC. Oh well... should be fun to see what we can do here.

I think I forgot something:
If you take first place that puts the X2 4200 into second place and me into third, if I overtake the Intel 2.8
and if I don't overtake him than that puts me in fourth place.

And I see that your first result is in. and I think you will take first. =D< =D<
I believe that I need to start saving money for a X4 6400+

Well, should I put one core back on Einstein? I dunno that I still wouldn't end up 2nd. :P

LOL. You just need to push that lovely 3700 a little harder. I'm sure it has more in it! And after all, this is a team effort, right? :thumbleft:

I just wanna :rightfighter5: Ethan.

BTW: I'd like to know what speed that 2.8 P4 is running, from the looks of the benchmarks its gotta be abound 4GHz.

I"m having nothing but problems with Rosetta. Today when I can home from work Boinc was no longer running and with the way Rosetta works (or doesn't work, as the case may be) I lost a lot of credits (and trust me, the PC is stable) :banghead: I can't afford to be wasting the capabilities of my #1 rig. I'll Put the X2 back on Einstein and maybe put the P4 on Rosetta.

EDIT: Think I'll make it one of the XP-Ms
