I've been waiting for BOINC v5 to mature, and for the projects to start supporting it, and now it seemed like a good moment to make a sweep check on the state of things... so I grabbed the latest dev version of BOINC (v5.2.1 available here (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_5.2.1_windows_intelx86.exe)), made a fresh install, and started testing it.

The first thing that popped up after I installed was the new Account Wizard...

After clicking next to continue, he now asked me for the project site to attach...

Given the project website, BOINC will try to communicate with it to check if it's really a BOINC project site...

Between the last step and this next one is where some non-compatible projects fail, and also projects that have the scheduler down.
But if you're lucky you'll see this...

Or if you choose to attach to an existing account, you'll see this...

I always chose to attach to my existing accounts, so I don't know the next steps for the new account.
As for attaching to existing accounts, after you insert the necessary info, then BOINC will once more communicate with the project site to confirm your account, and if everything is well, it will have finished attaching successfully, and you'll see this screen.

Seems all pretty easy and straightforward, doesn't it? Now comes the bad news...
I tried to attach to 10 projects, and only 3 were successfull.

These attached perfectly.
Einstein@Home
Orbit@Home
ClimatePrediction
Rosetta@Home

These connected to the server but failed to attach.
Predictor@Home
XtremLab
LHC@Home
PrimeGrid
Seti@Home

These didn't even connect to the server. Simply said "Project not found"
SZTAKI Desktop Grid
Shoft@Home

Conclusion...
Boinc 5 is 95% equal in aspect to boinc 4, (Windows version at least...) so there aren't any new gadgets to play with apart from the new Attach Wizard.
Given that such a low number of projects converted it's serverside software to support it, it is my oppinion that it isn't worthy for us users to upgrade to it just yet.
Sure it may have plenty of old bugs ironed out, but with so little support from the projects what good is it for us that use it?
I found in forums that some of those projects that I marked in Yellow, people say that they're working with BOINC v5, so I'll try to attach to them some more times, and post something if I manage to do it.
But honestly, I'll have to revert back to v4.72 as fast as I can... :?

[EDIT]
Tested and added Rosetta@Home. It attached perfectly.

Rosetta@Home also attached perfectly, raising to 4 out of 11 the number of projects that I was able to attach on BOINC v5.

CP worked for me too. i was getting this on the old version:
"climateprediction.net - 2005-10-13 19:02:19 - Deferring communication with project for 23 hours, 10 minutes, and 37 seconds"

so i waited 24 hours, and got it again...

but, this version works fine.
