Is it safe to buy a processor via internet? My motherboard is this one (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=100). I want to upgrade my 1100Mhz processor to a AMD AthlonXP 1700+.

I would stick with a 1800+ as thats the only XP CPU that they say will work. Also, yes its just fine to buy online i have purchased 4or5 CPUs I only shop at Here (www.newegg.com)

Almost everything I've bought PC wise over the net comes from www.overclockers.co.uk since they've always provided fast service and have a selection of performance hardware. Probably not the cheapest place though.

TA_Super_10, you should have looked more closely the latest bios adds support for 2400+ & 2600+ but that is if it was a turbo2 board but the bios before that fixed a problem with 1700+ in both boards so at most it's a bios flash but I would prefer a 1800+ too. My question if the kt7 turbo support up to 1800+ only is that palimino or will tbred work also. My board on support only support palimino but I have a tbred only problem I have ever had is cpu comes up unknown

yea it does support palimino but it also does support tbred. If you never plan to overclock getting a palimino would be easier to cool but the 1800+ tbred is cheap and overclock like mad.

I got to thinking (which is never good) now is the perfect time to get a 32bit system. You can get a Nforce2 motherboard and a barton 2500+ for as cheap as $150 US bucks add another $80 and get 2X256megs of ddr 3200 and run in dual ddr mode for only $230 US you can have a top of the line system.

Sorry i dont know the money conversion for you but its just to give you an idea on how cheap the 32bit are at the current time.

P.S. if you want to overclock any if you get a new CPU you need to find one made before week 39 of this year as AMD started locking all bartons, T-breds also all Thorton cores are locked not even the wire trick will work. You have to mod the L6 bridge (barton,t-bred)to trick your mobo to think its a XP mobile to have access to multipliers that is for CPUs after week 39.

How can you tell what week they were made?

when you look on the CPU it has a code like AQXFA 0339 it was made on week 39 of 2003 or AQZFA 0340 which was made on week 40 or 2003.
