Live Boinc

I noticed that the linux crunchers are faster, so i am trying to run BOINC on knoppix. I downloaded the linux client. I tried to follow the instructions on how to install it. I did the "run command", and typed "sh boinc_5.2.13_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh". According to boinc it would have created the folders. But i have no idea where to find the folders or even if it extracted the folders, since this is a live linux. Maybe i need to do a dual boot?
Any help would be great.

What is the medium of that live linux?
I've heard that they can go on CD, DVD, Zip drive, Pen drive...

I know next to nothing about linux, but if it is a live version (which means no install) then I guess you can only have saved folders and files if you have a linux partition, a ramdrive, or if the medium is writable (CD/DVD out of the question...)

Thanks for clearing that up for me. It is on a dvd. So i guess i am going to have to partition my hdd and dual boot it.

Hey JL... do you work well with those linux thingies? :P

One idea that would be cool is a live linux iso with boinc pre-installed. In which we would only have to insert the emails/passwords to join the projects after it booted and it could be left crunching away without any more interaction.
If it worked on a ramdrive or a usb pendrive it would be great. No need for hard drive in the machine. It would be a pure crunching machine. :)

I can't stand Linux... I am taking my second Linux class, "Linux Administration" in school right now... I am completely lost.

I haven't been doing Linux for long but i have messed about with a live dist, i can't see why you couldn't mount a USB mem stick and use that as a mini HDD.

/media/floppy or /cdrom why not /media/mem - save and run the sh boinc_5.2.13_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh script in that location.

Not sure about live dists but if you want to create a mount point after a reboot edit the fstab file in /etc - be careful and make a backup.

Yep spot on.

You don't get /etc/fstab in a live dist only for install.

I found a live distro called Slax that is based on slackware. It is very small i think about 150mb. By default it doesn't come with Boinc on it, but they have a boinc module, so you can put it on the cd. I am going to do that. If it works well then i will put it on rapidshare for all you guys to download.
