New BOINC project people! Another new toy for us to play with. :D

The project is called QMC@Home (http://qah.uni-muenster.de/index.php) (Quantum Monte Carlo at Home)

Quantum Monte Carlo At Home (QMC@HOME)
- is a project designed to further develop the Quantum Monte Carlo method for general use in Quantum Chemistry. With the help of volunteers all over the world we want to raise the computing power that is needed to test and further develop the opportunities of the promising new approach of Quantum Monte Carlo.

It is still in alpha stage, but going into beta in a month from now. They do not provide a screensaver yet in alpha, but check out what we'll be having soon :)
http://qah.uni-muenster.de/screensaver.php

The workunits take around 7 hours on my XP2000+, so in nowadays computers I'm sure they're much faster. :)

Plenty of teams are already there and fighting for the top ranks. Let's get cracking too people! :D

Almost forgot!

To join this project, the devs advise to go through the boinc wizard. See tutorial here:
http://qah.uni-muenster.de/usernotes.php

But, if you're nostalgic, you can access the create account form here, and join us directly:
http://qah.uni-muenster.de/create_account_form.php?teamid=2

Have fun! :)

Looks good.

Have you checked out the computer at the number one spot!

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+
Number of CPUs 1
Measured floating point speed 8378.76 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 30192.57 million ops/sec

Yikes!!!

From these guys...
http://www.aqua-computer.de/
it looks like they make some awesome cooling components, so that computer must be OC'd to the max!

want one! :?

Dude have you seen the new no.1 spot?
AMD ATHLON 64 3200+
2 gigs of memory
But the craziest thing on it is its benchmarks
99999.92 million ops/sec
99999.98 million ops/sec
Its been there one day and has 8,000+ TC and the rac is 5,000+

What the heck is that thing? Is someone cheating or something?
Its owned by anonymous.

That's a weird one... but we can't get much info since the results are not viewable.

My bet is that that is a hacked Boinc client with fake benchmark results.

Hi guys

I'm running this for Team Phoenix Rising. But I'm the only one over there running it currently..

Looking for a place for discussions on it so there not much help and seeing as the website doens't have it's forum yet..well you look like prime candidates... :D

Anyhow..the first batch of units I did seemed to be about 4 hours long...
Now the batch I have seems to be doing a unit in 11 to 12 hours! :?

Thats on a stock A64 3500+ with gig RAM...

Yes, I saw a notice on the main page saying that the running times would increase, but they didn't specify how much.

Thank God they implemented checkpointing! :)

I've decided that I'm not going to run this project. I got a couple hundred points for a couple days, but we are so far down the list of team points on this effort that I think I'm better off keeping my attention on the psp project.

Hi

I have checked the stats page of QMC@Home and notised the longer I run their wu´s the more claimed and granted credits I got.

5.556 CPUtimes gave 39.63 in both claimed and granted credits.
73.717.66 CPUtimes gave 522.25 points :thumbleft:

Am is running that project on my AMD Athlon 64.
Using my old Athlon 1001 MHz gave me 365.32 points after 256.873.92 CPUtimes.

Conclusion: Use your fastest computer for the best results. But I have only experience from AMD not Intel. Maybe AMD gives better result or perhaps not.´

You guys, have you another experience than me or can you verify that?

Lagu :)

Hi

brent a teammate use 2 computers in QMC one Intel and one AMD.

Intel P4 2.8 GHZ use 91.889.39 CPUtimes and claimed only 174.39 points.
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ use 109.265.585 CPUtimes and claimed only 335.87 points.

I think he hasn´t a optimised Boinc client or perhaps he have :?:
We should earn more points if all have an optimised client :!:

Hmmm.. About 17hrs and still not done. Guess I won't be doing QMC@Home anymore. I'm not fond of long WUs.

the optimized client is doing wonders. It decreased the estimated time for my current qmc wu with 5 hours. My bbc project estimated time decreased with 700 hours! Thank you guys for your tips and tricks. I hope my rac will increase as well, so we can start breaking into the tens at qmc :D

What optimized client are we talking about here?

i did just optimize the clients so it probably has not shown up yet. plus i run a lot of stuff in the backround that takes cpu time away aka buring dvd's.

the time it takes for a workunit depends on what type you get. there are four different types and two take 5 hours and the others take 15 hours.

PS where did you find the points generated for QMC i was looking for those.

ahab3333

found the credit screen

and the optimized client will change the credit from

time credit
52,202.21 160.46

50,481.74 248.02

thats a big jump for not doing anything but change a file.

What optimized client are we talking about here?

The optimised 5.2.13 client for athlon 64 from crunch3r.

Please read this message on the boards: http://qah.uni-muenster.de/forum_thread.php?id=281&nowrap=true#32389

That is Message # 32389... About half way down the long message it states in plain english just a few days ago January 19th.

One of my colleagues (Holger) already did a great job on this topic. He made it possible to use ORCA with our nVidia graphic cards. I will implement this part of ORCA into the version which will be used for QMC@home. So that both the CASINO program and ORCA will support graphic cards calculations.Foot Tapping as to when this will occur~!? :blob3:

I may try the QMC@home if i get bored with PrimeGrid. I've haven't been on much since Moneybee took a dive and I'm ready to start some new projects.

Good idea 202life, QMC is generous at rewarding points. Expect about 40 per hour, well above the Seti standard.
