Shopping for a motherboard to suit XP2000+

I'm in the market for a motherboard to suit an XP2000+. I don't really need SATA and I don't need Firewire. On-board 100 Mbps LAN and sound is mandatory. Prefer DDR333 or 400 RAM.
My old MSI K7N420Pro is only cable of running DDR266 (PC2100) RAM stably. If I try a stick of DDR400 it boots to a black screen only.
I'm considering either Abit NF-7 or Gigabyte GA-7N400Pro2. Any thoughts?

Chaz, tbreds come in models 1700+ and up but paliminos come in 1600+ to 2100+ also just because a board is said to use ddr 2100 doesn't mean it wouldn't use higher. All ddr is backwards compatable. A couple of reason to use above fast ddr in a ddr266 board would be price. sometimes faster ram is cheaper another is overclocks better. I have a epox 8kha+ kt266a and ddr2700 and it runs 170 fsb no problem although I have to admit it would be overkill in most 266 boards

vaughan, I'm guessing the the brand of ddr might have a problem with that board sometimes the website lists which brand have been test to work and which ones don't. Try clearing cmos if that doesn't help then set timing less agressively.

Yes I understand DDR is backward compatible, I have PC2700 in my Dragon Plus KT266A board, thats why I asked if he was going to overclock..When did that board come out, around the winter of 2001? When did Tbred A 2000+ come out, June 2002?
How about the Tbred B 2000+, not till early 2003? so I supposed it depends on when the cpu was purchased.I made the assumption they were purchased around the same time, which would point to Palomino. My mistake, I assumed.

As i see you have a MSI Nforce1 board the Nforce 2 is even better. This board supports 400FSB and ddr 3200, its has onboard lan, dual ddr functions and 5.1 realtek sound. Here (http://forum.msi.com.tw/thread.php?threadid=14555&sid=) is a list of approved ram that is tested to work 100%. If you have the extra cash go with the ILSR model its $116us but has SATA raid firewire soundstorm audio

I never heard of that model but I knew of 1500+ palimino's. I bet those are pretty rare now days too
