On that site it says that the info is outdated, and the link to the final product editions is:
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_editions_final.asp

And it ups the count of editions to 8, if you count with the N versions...

Hi

I think the Vista should cost money. XP Professional cost today 3000 Swedich crowns = 379,26 dollar. If vista vill cost 4000 crowns = 505,68 dollar. That perhaps is cheap in the USA but a large sum in Sweden. For many peoples it is 1/2 of income after tax. We have a tax deduction of 33-34%.

For 4000 crowns I can buy a waching mashine or a new AMD dual core.

I am sorry you feel that way Guest, maybe some of us could change your perception of other operating systems. Some of them really are better then Windows.

Ubuntu linux is actually really good.
If Uni didn't FORCE me to use Word  I might switch to it properly. Now I figure it might be time to switch sometime soon to a linux dual boot option :D

I see a problem already lining up and it isn't even on the shelf selling. The OS only supports 2 CPU's; hence Dual Cores YES new Quad Cores NO. Ain't that I bummer, I will have to turn over a new leaf and go with SOlaris after all. I have just become a SUN worshipper anyway, a much better product then Windows...

Nflight,

Quote "While all of the Vista product editions support only one or two physical processors, none are limited to the number of processor cores they will support." ...So we will not have a problem using 2 way systems with dual or quad cores.

My assumed issue with Vista is that it will be exteremly 'FAT' with regards to memory and graphics use due to the AERO Glass engine. Although I am sure you can turn that off! ...it looks nice but for crunching it will probably cripple performance!

You can definately turn off the Aero theme. I hear the OS is "smart" enough to turn on/off settings depending on how powerful your computer is.

I read a rumor stating that Vista will take over 800mb(!!!) idle. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=30128

7GB of disk space! Ouch!

This guy puts MS to shame http://www.toms.net/rb/ although Linux on 1 diskette only really has a use as a recovery tool.

I can think of a very good use for it in Distributed Computing - BORGing :D

This is the year… the year that Microsoft releases the newest version of Windows. We are targeting to make Windows Vista generally available in the second half of this year, and the exact delivery date will ultimately be determined by the quality of the product.. So what is so compelling that our customers would want to spend money upgrading to the Vista operating system? Let’s take a quick look at all that Vista offers a small business.

And @ the bottom:
From The Official Microsoft Connections Blog:

This is the year… the year that Microsoft releases the newest version of Windows. Yes, Vista will be released in November of this year.
Via Mary...

EDIT: Somewhat confused now. I found this on Digg and said it would be released in November, another Digg'er now says the article has been changed to "2nd half of 2006".
