Malaria Control update

I just noticed that AMD users has dropped from 9th place to 17th for the top teams... ;( I just added 7 more computers to my account today :D
they are all athlon XP's @ 900mhz... not the fastest, but they are just sitting there running in a computer lab 24/7, so I figured why not put em to work!

Now that I check it, what you mean is by RAC, not total points. By total points we're still in 11th.
But a drop that big on RAC is really not good... means we are in danger of losing alot of ranks.

I was inpressed with these little computers...

I added them all yesterday evening, and this morning my rac went from 119 to 133!

hey, did you guys know that an athlon cpu can crunch at 97 degrees C?

well, they can! not for very long though...just long enough to get halfway through a project, and then shut down hehe...I replaced a proc yesterday, and managed to forget to plug in the power for the cpu fan :P my bad!

AMDusers are now back up to 11'th place for RAC, and 11'th for total! yay :lol:
I just set up all my new computers from work with the optimized clients...big differance! 700/1700 to 900/2700 average!

I guess you are right there vaughan. I already reached my daily quota for today, so the winner would be the person with the most machines. I only have 1 crunching, so it looks like you are going to be the winner. BUT not for long! I posted a message on their boards asking them to raise the quota, so then i might be able to use the full potential of my beast.

over this summer, we are adding another little computer lab room for the school I work at. I am hoping I can get athlons in there...but I'll be sure to get em set up for malariacontrol, hehe

I know some people might have registered with two emails...

I know in the future this might happen if I sign upto a alpha/beta one...then I'll give it to people on the team that dont have an account :)

Espcially useful in something like this one where the creation is has been closed for ages... :-(

That idea crossed my mind several times, as lately I've been the first on the Team to find and signup for several new projects. :)
I have no doubts that people do it, but I think it's unfair, especially if we're talking about a project where accounts are limited. One person registering a bunch of accounts just to have them for spares is unfair to those that later come by and find that there's no more empty slots.

My "protocol" when I find a new project is to first alert the administrators here (Vaughan mostly, as he's the one in charge of managing all the team creations and stuff). If he's not around and the projects workunits are quick, I end up creating the team myself and then pass it on to him as soon as he joins. This because I don't want my credits to go to "no-team". :roll:

One idea we could implement is we create a list of usernames/emails, managed by our Admins Vaughan and Jeff, of people who want to be signed in to new projects.
And when I or someone else found a project we would report it to Vaughan and he would create the new accounts for everybody on the list.
We would all be in, and no one would need to keep spare unused accounts.

oh darn, I ran into a problem... I had to make my fleet of athlon use limited accounts, becuase the kids that use them were doing an awesome job of installing everything... the problem is: I can't get boinc to run on a limited account! I can't do runas either! it is REALLY annoying! :mad:

if any of you have any tips on how to fix this, that would be AWESOME!

What about making the processes run as Administrator? You would need to allow each BOINC exe but it might work...

hmm a service install... I am going to have to play around with this ...
I have never had it before where when you go to use the right-click runas command, it doesn't work. Maybe I'll have to figure out the syntax and do it in the command prompt ... herm.

Yeah early June they are going to open up to 1500 more people for 2000 total. :D

Early in June we will have number of additional datasets (=WU types) ready. At that point we would like to open for more users to join.
We still plan to do this stepwise, the target user population will be 2000 users for the next step.

I can't wait...this is a really worthwhile project I am very keen to join...looking at the stats, for so few users the project is doing very well :)
