Hi

Reports from an over clocking adventure:

I’ve over clocked my AMD Athlon 64, 3.200+ (NewCastle) from 2.247/204 to 2.310/210 MHz and run the computer a several days without any problems. Now I have increase the speed to 2.365/215.3 MHz

The temp is for:
CPU: 48 C degree
SYS: 42 C
PVM: 46 C

Fan speed: 1.800 -1.860 Zalman 12 cm.

It is amazing to see that low temperature as I never had before the BIOS upgrade. I had 60 C degree earlier when I was running at 2.247 MHz.

Any as have experience of where the limit for the System Clock is before the computer tend to be instable?

if you set yours to turbo what is the MHz speed?

on my 3200 Winchester i get 2000MHz as normal stock speed. Under turbo setting i get 2160MHz and i have since pushed this to 2200MHz. At this speed i get the temps CPU-57 SYS-32 PVW-46 after 2 days full load.

It is luck which CPU batch you got. Some can be pushed a long way but others wont go far at all. You ar safe within the uguru as if you push it too hard and cause a crash then the machine resets default values and goes onto "normal" setting.

from what i have read under air i would not push the processor much beyond CPU temp: 60.

I´ve tested the Turbo settings and got 2376/216 MHz but the CPU get to hot, 86 C degree.

With a speed of 2.365/215 MHz I run Benchmark and got:

3.200 double precision MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
9.800 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU

This is a lot better than when I run at a speed of 2.247/204 MHz

I have so far overclocked my opteron 244 from 1800mhz to 2250 mhz. It runs at 44c at max load. I'm leaving it here until I get some better cooling

from 1800mhz to 2250

thats already 25%!!!
how much more do you think it will go?

Well on the other forums I like to read alot( www.guru3d.com) I hear that it can hit 2400mhz pretty easy. I gave it a try and it was stable until I started up prime95. It was just barely unstable, prime95 would report a error here and there and didn't crash windows so I figure I just need to add the slightest bit of voltage(like...0.005)

It'll be sweet if they can run at 2400, and at a decent temp so I can leave them overclocked :)

Well I am currently pushing my 4200+ at 110% or the quivalent of 2.420 Ghz
I also have a temperature of a constant 50° C, Voltage remains at 1.36v, and FSB is at 880.

4200+ at normal operating setup is 2.210 Ghz.

I tried to raise the bar to 112 % and the system went into convulsions, and I had to enter the bios and return the selection to 100% before she would allow normal boot. I have been reading that the best way to get the higher speed is to raise the voltage from 1.36v to somewhere around 1.4v or better depending on a lot of things. I found the most help here: http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=gethowto&howtoID=58

Although you may want to read about old systems and the art of OC'ing 3 to 4 years ago. This makes you think that there is more then one way to skin a cat. http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=gethowto&howtoID=43
This article is dated, 2003-11-01 which is eurpean or reversed for us'ins on the other side of the pond~!

I learned most of what I know about overclocking athlon 64 cpus(athlon 64/x2/turions/opterons/etc...) at this forum post http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=888001&page=1&pp=20

Helped me out alot, couldn't believe how much of a oc I got after doing what they said to do.

Electabots I like your link the best. Now I get a good feeling after reading that information, thank you very much for sharing.

I agree. A very valuable link and simple to read and not a half page with written lines about every subject.
