My company has just released a couple of new SANs.

So if you are feeling that all your BOINC tasks are filling up your hard drives a little too much then how about upgrading just a little and plugging one of these into your PC.

It comes with 16x3.6GHz processors just to maintain the cache coherency and management engine and will currently give you the world's largest storage capacity from one unit - just 1.36 petabytes (thats 1,426,063.36 GBs).

Very impressive processor wise but shoot storage wise that isn't much more than my desktop. I have 1 TB of storage in this machine and it only cost me $350. :P

You'd have to be a saint all year for Santa to give you this for Christmas as it costs a few million $$$.

We'll probably all look at this link in 10 years or so and laugh because we have more than that in our phone!

Now for a quick maths lesson (Keith75, are you listening ;)) as the next storage milestones are coming up fast - an ExaByte is 1,024PetaBytes, a ZettaByte is 1,024ExaBytes and a YottaByte is 1,024ZettaBytes

That means a YottaByte is 1,125,899,906,842,624 GigaBytes :shock:

Jokes aside, I'm still trying to figure out how to fill that thing. I work for a BIG comms company and I recon everything we have would fit in there and get lonely :shock:

The uber-SANs are targetted at Financial and Oil companies both requiring super fast performance and who have extensive data that needs to be accessed on a regular basis. It is actually more cost effective to have one of these rather than several smaller ones.

I know a couple of Oil companies who could fill several Petabytes with just seismic exploration data.

AMDave, you could always buy two, and perch your desk on top of both of them. You may need a ladder to get to your keyboard and you might stand out a bit in the office but I'm sure it would work! ;)
