I've just been reading up on a coprocessor that slots directly into a spare Opteron socket. It then utilises the HyperTransport to direct requests and it is specifically for 2-way or above Opteron motherboards. Apparently they only use 10-20watts per socket as well but can give you anything between 10 to 20x the performance and if the application is optimized can give 100x to 1000x performance increase! :shock: :shock: :shock:
Obviously you would need to reprogram BOINC and possibly WUs to utilise it but what a great idea...
