View Full Version : Preparing for the SZTAKI leg of the BOINC race

I've attached all 4 of my dual-cores to the project with no problem. Only odd thing I have going on is that one of them only has about 4 hours of work on it and will not download more. All of my computers are set up on the same "location" (in BOINC prefs) but the other 3 have the 5+ days of work I've instructed them to have.

Any problem or thoughts others are having while beginning this leg of the race, feel free to post here.

One of your 3800s has only returned one work unit. Try letting it send in a few more results and then perhaps the server will take it more seriously. It did seem to behave that way when I loaded up. Dave,

The one that has the least work on it has been running SZTAKI for days... the recently added ones are sitting on LOADS of WU's.

Yes but when I look at your results I see 312 work units loaded and only 3 results returned for computer ID 20384. Is that the one with the problem? Dave.

nope... 20052 :P

Can't be that one you now have over 300 WUs loaded and even your mighty machines can't crunch that in 4 hours (I hope). I guess it is the 165. Have reset your general preferences to 10 days for that machine and updated it? Dave. (reply to previous message)

It is the 165. It shows 334 WU.... 300+ of which are already finished. (and its set to "Connect to network every 5 days" as they all are)

EDIT: Fixed. Set up seperate preferences for that computer but still was the same, then put it back with the others and it started downloading work.

Like you I'm out of ideas I'm afraid. There seem to be loads of WUs in the server. The only strange thing is that the 165 is showing a download rate of 0.17 KB/s whereas all your other ones are 40 to 400 times faster, could that be limiting it? i.e. the server timing out. Dave.

I dunno what it was, but it wasn't even trying to get work. Whatever it was is gone now... I've got 2+ days of work.

Mitro, the server was afraid that you would hog all workunits for yourself and leave none to the rest of the participants.

Hehehe.... I knew it was something simple.

Hi

I have set the connection to the server every 5 days. This evening I downloaded 68 WU´s. I was forced to close the connection. Every task should take 59.07 hours whish is 4.016.76 hours and 5 days is 120 hours. Now I have run 2 work units and it took 0.37 and 0.24 minutes.

It will be interest to se ho long 68 WU´s will last.

Lagu :)

The shortest WU I've got so far was 11 minutes and the longest was 50 minutes.

To all those fearless champions of SZtaki, I am sitting here on top of a horde of WU's and yes I had a glitch of sorts with downloading so many work units. I turned the Network activity off on the Rocketship after it downloaded the 660,000 seconds of Work Requested and then the 3500+ was able to acquire its fair share.

No I am not listed on the Team Effort as of Yet, I figured I would lie and wait to pounce on the Team Sunday Night. Yet I can't keep my mouth shut so now you know I am lieing and crunching away. Waiting till Sunday Night to pour all these work units into the realm of competition.

Aren't you lucky I spoke up, wasn't anybody wondering where I have been? Sneaking around in the shadows waiting for my time to say here I am, score me!

I’ve now crunch 13 WU´s on my AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.365/215 MHz and the time it has taken range from the lowest 22.50 to the highest 52.07 minutes. Total CPU-time was 456.82 minutes whish is equivalent to 7 hr 6 min 14 sec.
The WU´s time is jumping up and down. There is no fixed time.

I have yet 53 WU´s to done.

Neogen, how is the rules? Should we begin to run the WU´s before and submit the results during the sunday night or will we begin to crunch clock 01.00 I.E not have any work to upload. I only wounder because I have a lot of work who is already crunched and right now crunching. Of scourse I can uppload it and begin from zero if you say so. I´m only testing their WU´s and now I know about them as you can see above.

Hi Lagu,

Depends on what strategy you want to take! I myself will drop my load (excuse the pun) on Monday as I think SZTAKI qualifies the credits quickly but I maybe wrong! Unfortunately I grabbed too few too quickly and had to upload them as my systems went dormant and so I had to grab some more but now I haven't got as much as I'd like. Still my new machine arrives next Wednesday so hopefully that can help me a bit!

Mitro, IT Security didn't like the idea of using the 24xquad DCs for non-business use, so it looks like I won't be storming past you! I may just cheekily test a few of them out next week on STAKI for a short blast though to see what benchmark figures they produce (only for a business sizing analysis of course ;) )

(only for a business sizing analysis of course ;) )Uh huh... sure. :P

Well its too bad you couldn't permision to use them. You wouldn't have been thinking about storming past me, you would have been aiming for the #1 overall in any project you put them on. :)

And no I'm not going to be sneaky and save up my credits over this weekend. Maybe come Monday night I won't be #1. :P

There are no particular rules on how you get the credits, the general tactics around here is to gather a big load of workunits beforehand and dump the results after I start the contest. :)

After reveiwing the numbers and approximation of how long it will take to overcome our first team. It seems even before the actual Team Challenege takes place. The Team effort will rise to 8th place sometime on Saturday night or early Sunday as we the AMDusers move up in the standings.

Signed Sneaky SZtaki Cruncher....

NEOGEN When is the Race officially starting I do not want to dump all these precious WU's at the wrong time?

NeoGen

Hopefully at the same time as Leiden, at the start of Monday, 00:00 am GMT. (Right when the day turns from Sunday to Monday)

But don't dump your workunits until you see my confirmation post. As I posted on another thread, I'm having severe net connection problems... :?
