Music to my ears, lost your best two computers and can't get any work  Perhaps I won't be last next week as I have 250+ WUs tucked away

Sigh..... But I'm still getting work. :D

EDIT: I wish I can somehow make a schedule to stop WUs for a certain project at a certain time. I would do it during school (Having IT in the morning), but I don't think the school district will appreciate me running RealVNC and trying to do something on my computer while using up thier bandwidth. That that it matters, I've wasted countless bandwidth during E3 last week with the press conferences/trailers!

I have learned alot with this race going on on how to avoid errors from boinc. I wanted so bad to download 7 days of Predictor to get an edge on everyone, when I did not read the fine print. OUCH as I accidently downloaded WU's for another project and then I turned and downloaded for another wrong Project, Wholly Mother of GOd I downloaded work units from Projects everywhere but where I wanted to.

Under "Your Account"
What I did not read is that you can not have more then one setting for General Preferences :specify when and how BOINC uses your computer Click on "Veiw or Edit", Network Usage Now comes the bitter end of me....Connect to network about every
(determines size of work cache; maximum 10 days)

What frustrated me was that I set different amounts of time for each project and found that if you read the very fine print, it says that each one of the projects must match in order to download work units. So 7 days of wu's will not download if SZtaki has a setting of only 0.1 days, you will only get 0.1 days for the 7 did not stick. I found this to be the angle to solve the frustration of how to get over this hurdle.

Set ALL to the same number, and you may have to set them several times to get them to stick. Go back and check as you will see what I mean. I keep each account open as I change them all in seperate windows. This way I can easily go back and check to make sure each one is the way I put it.

I have learned to download as much for any project and then set the NO New Work button. This way I can get as much as I want and even stop the amount of WU's coming in but clicking on that tab [No New Work]. All projects now have this button engaged. I sign up for a new project and set the Preferences to 7 days and then I connect and as soon as I do I quick go into main screen of Boinc and click the NO New Work.

Now you have all my Secrets, now all the frustrations should unwind. My fingers are tired from all this typing and correcting....

Oh one last thing be quick with that button, because as soon as you finish on the adding to the project it asks for 600,000 seconds of work.

getting 0.1 days work would be fine, but I got 2 WU and can't get anymore.

This is why I hate Predictor.

I don't know what to say my friend. A cold six pack and some friends online might do the trick, of finding a solution to your problem!

Very Cold Six Pack I might add!

I´ve set all Boinc Manager to connect every 3 days and every day I got 50 new WU´s from SZTAKI. Every day I got 50 new one and it is enough. Their works takes not 10 min each.
If there will be smaller work units I will set it from 7 or 10 days.

Lagu :)

The "Won't get new work" tab works separately for each project so you can have "Won't get new work" set on work on all the projects that you don't want to run. This is especially useful on SZTAKI as it won't mix with other projects due to its checkpoint problem.
You can also set different settings for "connect to the network every ? days" But the settings propagate through the various projects each time you connect to them and if you set different numbers of days for each project then it works temporarily but eventually it is a lottery what you end up with. it is useful to gorge on a project just before a competition whilst letting the last competition die down, but you have to watch it closely.
Have you tried remote desktop top control your computer from school?
Dave

BOINC uses your last modified preferences. I too wish you could make separate ones for each project. Figuring out percents to make BOINC automatically do it is too much math. Maybe they'll add that later. :D

I've got about 96 wus, but i'd like to get the 200 max before i disable the network.

Mitro, I checked your machine on the Predictor site, and it shows that at least the last 15 results weren't successful. Most you didn't ever return. Errors and things like that make your daily quota drop.

To solve that you have to uninstall boinc, completely remove the leftovers folder that always stays behind after uninstalling boinc, and reinstalling it again.
That way you'll be registering a new machine on the project under your account, and you'll get the project's default quota again. (500 workunits?)

Talk about going off-topic.

Anyone know if there's a way to remotely control BONIC? What my plan is when I'm in school, I can put a program onto my flashdrive and connect to my computer. What's my plan anyway... or is there a scheduler thing for BOINC?

That would have been the worst thing you could have done.
It will have affected the scheduler, effectiviely removing any debt that Predictor had and giving it to the other projects.

Use this utility here
http://www.boinc.dk/download.php?file=boincdv_v0306.zip
to measure the scheduler and what will be the next project to crunch etc.

This page on the BOINC Wiki should help you out...
http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/index.php?title=Work_Scheduler

;) Hope that helps

Hi

I too had problems to get the project to work. When I read Blackheat´s post about the home preference I checked it and the connection “windows” for up and downloads was empty. Also other settings were wrong so I changed it. Then I rejoined Predictor using my E-mail and password instead for the key account and I got 108 WU´s after change the connection to 10 days.

Thank you Blackheat for wake me up. :D

I see every works have a “Time to ready” of 52.22 minutes on my AMD Athlon 64 but is done after 42.02 and 100 %. When I then checked the first work the time had decreased to 43.42 and 102 %. Then it went back to 100% and 43.42.

That is strange. I hope there not is any wrong with that WU.

On my AMD Athlon 1001 MHz “Time to ready” is 3.04.20 hours. What a difference between these computers.

Are you intending to run them all at some point?
I dont like the clear debts button. Basically you delete one of the XML files...(Cant remember which one of the top of my head)

If your not intending on running them at anypoint, I recommend taking them off. Otherwise they'll build up a debt and will try and fill it when they are unsuspended.

Of course if you plany to run them, keep them. Though what happens if you set there project prefs to 0% I dont know...that MAY help.

You know I've never had any problems getting WU's from Predictor.

The thing I am having a problem with though, is getting my son to leave Boinc on now that he has taken the 4800+ home. For some reason he seems to think that he needs to keep Boinc turned off to play his computer games, and then he forgets to turn it back on.
