Here's another new project for us to play with, altough with the boinc competition running this may not be the best moment. :P

http://boinc.vtu.lt/vtuathome/

The site doesn't reveal much about the project, no message boards, no Q&A... In order to find out what was this about I had to personally email the project supervisor (see link on bottom of the page)

In reply to my email, Aurimas Norkevicius (project supervisor/administrator) said that this was merely a test project for him to practive development on the boinc platform. This project is running just a simple application that counts how many prime numbers are there in a given range. However, Norkevicius said that he intends to launch real projects soon for boinc, altough he didn't specify on what field of research. We'll just have to wait for it...

Bottomline:
- The project is up and running
- It's just a test project (no scientific value)
- Account creation is open
- There is work
- Workunits are quick (around 1 hour on an XP2000+)
- And we got a team there, so far ranked 1st

If you create an account through the boinc wizard, don't forget to go to the Team page and join us. ;)
Here is our Team:

I always consider rankings by Total Credit. :P The RAC is very unstable.

Joined... always a bit wary about projects that don't really tell you what they are doing though.

OK... so why waste crunching power on something that isn't even really a project, just practice in case they want to do a project?

It's just for fun. :P

I think Norkevicius should have also enabled the message boards. Without it there's no way we could report problems. I spotted one problem and one odd thing. The problem is that the application v2.0 that we crunch with doesn't support suspending/resuming, it crashes the workunit. The odd thing is that on the applications list it shows a v3.01 but boinc never gets it.

I think this project is either dead or they're building something for it. The website has been down for days and BOINC won't connect either.

I hope they're building something for it, particularly a better validator... Last time I checked I had over 2,000 pending credits on it.

I don't know for how long but the project now has message boards working.
We can now complain there. :P

I'm with Mitro (wherever he is) concerning this project. If it's not intended to benefit mankind they aren't getting my machine cycles.
