Just noticed there is some new work on BURP.

I'm doing well in average credit so far in 5th place.

Team is 3rd place.

I'm 1st place in the team  (based on RAC)

I just received some work for the first time. I know patience is important but I have been on the list since April waiting, the waiting paid off. :)

thanks for the heads up Evil-Dragon.

i got 2 and they both instantly crashed :(, with a blender error http://burp.boinc.dk/results.php?hostid=11528

Ah that would been the session 186 units that they screwed up on... session 184 units were ok. There is more work in the queue looking at the server status.

I got the Blender error also, so I am back to square one I guess, patience again.

I burped just aminute ago and yes it is 192 I have 3 WU's from. I will allow one to finiish if it will this time and then return to Rosetta.

I haven't seen this message before:

8/06/2006 11:09:55 PM|BURP|Message from server: Your computer has only 468639744 bytes of memory; workunit requires 68231168 more bytes
8/06/2006 11:09:55 PM|BURP|Message from server: No work sent

Those errors seem to pop up with me too, And I have enough memory so I figured I was too late to get new WU's. I beleive the window of opportunity has closed to get work unit's by your posting the error message.

OOPS ERROR - I have just received new WU's once again, Vaughan may I suggest Reseting the BURP project, that may help the effort.

Be warned, these new session 192 workunits are huge.

So far it's a possible 8 hrs per workunit, however I have a feeling it's going to be longer since it's been getting higher every time it completes a pass on a frame.

Up side is it will earn lots of credit when finished.

i got a few :D

mine are estimating at 5hours 30mins atm.

Man those are some long Wus. My two were almost done, like at 80% after 6 hours with an eta of 1 hour. I came back an hour later and they are 50% with an ETA of 3 hours! I think it must be encoding more than one pass.

Evil-Dragon
06-08-2006, 07:45 PM
They are encoding more than one pass, i believe it applies each filter with each pass. So, if it looks like it's stuck in a loop then it is not, do not cancel the workunit.

My last completed WU was 5hrs 47mins. I still have one from lunch time running that is currently at 8hrs 41mins (no idea how long is left)

Lol, there is 62,000 parts left. It's going to be some weeks until we finish if all the WUs are like this.

*Takes a calm breath*

GOD DAMMIT!

8 hrs of work time lost on a workunit and now it's reset back to 0hrs 0 mins!
It seems the people at BURP never thought about putting save points in workunits so if you decided to restart your computer then your time spent would be saved...

...I will let them off being that it's pre-alpha.

Yes I am having thoughts of what the heck is going on here? Time says 55 minutes per WU but the total so far is over 2 hours and 45 minnutes and the remaing time is still stating 51 minutes to go?

I am thoroughly confused, please explain this phenomenum?

Mine have been running for 14 hours and still haven't stopped. Ugh....

Evil-Dragon
06-09-2006, 08:59 AM
I dunno how long these WU's are supposed to be but i hope they finish soon...

EDIT: There is talk on the BURP forums of these units potentially taking longer than 24 hrs, may run past the deadline and also reset the WU if you restart your computer or even suspend the task. It better be some damn good animation for all this power.

I got mad and aborted all of them after i read this from the dude who made it. Session 192 is a very intensive test of raytracing, including 16 samples AO, a middling octree size, and many many reflections and refractions (ray depth of 10). Even though it's split into 32 bits per frame, all this raytracing uses LOTS of memory.

Join the club, i cancelled these WU's as well... i'll leave someone else to do them. Whats maddening is that one WU did 15 hrs CPU time and then died due to being out of memory

i finally completed one of mine.
the completed render doesnt even look good. :(

from burp official site:

Session 192 has been cancelled because it was hitting some of the hardcoded computational limits set for the test client. Credit will be given for the workunits where 2 or more succesful results have been returned. Unfortunately it was not practical to generate credit for workunits with only 1 result - however, you can rest assured that your results have been very valuable to the project.
The next sessions should start shortly. These both have a much lower expected resource usage.

BUt what happens if you share the cpu time of 50% each hour it changes back and forth, will the Wu start over?

I dropped all of mine, I let one hit 22 hours and I still had supposedly 42 minutes left of Work Time, Wholly MOther of MOses. I sure am glad I read the whole post. I thought My machine was whacked for a moment.

even if you share it should never stop mid task within burp. At least thats what i found, with enstien and roseatta etc. it does but burp should complete.

the other day after a few hours my BOINC re-benchmarked itself. This cause the burp task to be removed from memory and therefore have to restart. This problem must effect everyone!

I got 512 Megs of RAM but somehow boinc says I don't, and doesn't let me download burp work. :?

It says I only have approximately 511.5 megs of ram and that I need about 500kbytes more to be able to crunch the workunits.

Anybody got a clue on this problem? I thought the old lower 640k vs. upper memory thing was gone since the days of DOS...

Evil-Dragon
06-14-2006, 06:31 PM
With 512mb of RAM you won't be able to crunch any of these session 192 units, trust me on that. It even failed on my 2nd machine that's got 1GB in it giving the tail-tale out of memory BOINC error code (0x2F)

At 15hrs+ a WU they can be truely evil, espically since they don't have checkpoints so it'll keep crunching those WU's without swapping projects.

neo all i can think is a reinstall. I think that is the only way for it to refresh all the hardware.

the most recent WU i got was a small one again, completed relitavley quickly like they used to!

I was reading on the uFluids website today, seems like their WU's are going to be a bit of a pain to when we run them for the competition next week.

They too have a long runtime (10-15hrs) and also lack checkpoints.

If uFluids annoys me too much i'll just carry on with Einstein/Rosetta/Climate Prediction for the week.
