Just a few mins ago, I was crunching a WU for 8 hours. Now it's gone becuase of an error.

Being the curious type, I went on to the message board and there's a thread (http://ufluids.net/forum_thread.php?id=243) on people posting bad WUs. Depending the severity of this problem, perhaps we should switch projects? I'll try to update you guys if I get anymore problematic WUs. I hope this isn't common.

I really do have a sort of dislike for uFluids.

1) The project owner can't make up his mind about making it Open Source. One minute the code is up and then he takes it down
2) There are no checkpoints, you BOINC will be locked into crunching uFluids and will not switch apps
3) The project is still in Alpha, which explains the above.

It's up to everyone else about switching, i did 1 WU yesterday, it took 8 hrs.

Still no checkpoints? Bad timing then, because I should be getting my new computer soon. And the WUs take forever. :-(

Correct, still no checkpoints :?

It's a bit late for changing projects now... :-(

I haven't crunched ufluids in months, so I didn't know how good or bad it was running. What we could do, if problems arise and people agree, is to cancel this race and have a week of break.

I've had my 'week of break' already but I'm sure my systems won't mind to stay dormant for another week!

...tried ufluids and got computation errors gallore, so I'm glad we're not doing this one next week

Let's return to Leiden Classical.

or perhaps PrimeGrid?

Someone was asking about doing this one for the competition before.

Yup, just got another error while I was asleep.

I think we really need a new project. I'm fine w/ LC or Prime Grid. :)

Based on DC-Vault scores, I would say QMC then LC, but PG is okay with me too.

Well, uFluids seems to be unreliable for a race, and it's kind of late to change projects, so let's have a week of break! :)

I'll just make a thread to announce it, and then we'll all push on our favorite projects for the next 7 days. :)

By the way, Burp has got work again, and it works for machines with 512 megs of RAM this time! :D

Seeing that ufluids is out, I'll promote PrimeGrid to its place. But to not alter the calendar again, I'll add PrimeGrid to after HashClash, from July 3rd -> 7th.

QMC seems to also behave well, but aren't the workunits really long too? With long workunits, and just 5 days, a person does few workunits, and of those few even less get validated. That's the only reason I didn't add QMC to the Championship right from the beggining... :?
But then again I don't run QMC for months too, since it was still alpha, has it changes since then?

So HashClash is next? Woot, one of my favourite projects. :P

NeoGen
06-17-2006, 08:59 PM
Actually... just noticed that HashClash has stopped work... :-(

13 Jun 2006
Due to increasing workload we have stopped distributing work until our server has caught up with processing all returned workunits.
And I'm UOTD at HashClash today! lol

Primegrid will be up after this week of break.

having a break sounds good while a "good" project can be sorted out.

Yeah some of QMC's can be really long, but they only have a quorum of 1 so they get validated right when you return them :D

I'm gonna run this for a while and see if the bugs have been fixed. I'll let Vaughan and LeBo have fun dualing it out in Boinc Riesel Sieve. I need to raise my score on this project anyways. I'll be the guinea pig to see if this project is any better now. I'll let yall know if I get any errors...

Update:

uFluids seems as if it is on track again. I have not had any problems as of yet.

Nflight,

Have you had any problems?

NeoGen

How long is each workunit?

Beerknurd
08-22-2006, 08:21 PM
45 minutes on a X2 4200

51 minutes on a 2.8 Intel Dual Core

1.8 hours on a 1.6 Pentium M

Nflight
08-22-2006, 09:38 PM
Work Units are all giving full credit, times are now just around 53 to 55 minutes even though the time states over one hour it never is that long. This is running a 3500 which I don't have anymore and my 4200 which I now have 2 of them!

No Problems no errors very smooth running :)

Beerknurd

crap!!! when did you get that??? You should soon be beating me in the daily stats then.....

Nflight
08-23-2006, 01:35 AM
I was gone all day today, getting the upgrade. I have only had the machine about 6 hours as of this writing. In the next couple of days the stats will show the improvement. Sorry I had a 939 pin using one core and thought I was wasting my energy so I did the right thing and put in a 4200 in its place. If anyone is going to do the improvement, please for the love of God upgrade your bios first, while the old chip is still in the machine, then upgrade your drivers for the new upgraded Bios. This will result in a nicer day - then if you change the chip then try the bios upgrade.

Learn from my mistakes... All is well and numbers are already rising! Ya Hoo! :)

Edited for spelling and shortening of time I have had the beast #2 running !~!

I'll let Vaughan and LeBo have fun dualing it out in Boinc Riesel Sieve.
But Beerknurd you have the World #1 ranked computer in BRS.

Beerknurd
08-23-2006, 04:56 AM
Not for long...

maybe I should put the 4200 on BRS and the rest of the farm on uFluids.

That sounds like a plan to me....

Beerknurd
08-23-2006, 05:00 AM
Actually Vaughan, you have the top ranked computer in BRS. At least credit wise. I have it in average credit. Give me a few days and I'll take that back....

Beerknurd if your going to go lax on ufluids thats ok I brought a friend over to help out and get our numbers up even higher. The Team Effort will no longer be below par we should attain sub tenth place by the end of September. Maybe sooner, depends how many more Team Mates want to get full credit for Work Units. For evey work unit I do, I claim a credit to each one, in ufluids you get that credit no matter what the claim, so if your handy Optimized client says it is worth 60 points, you get 60 points. This is why Beerknurd and myself are getting such high numbers so fast.

Ok back to uFluids... Overnight I seem to have been slammed in BRS. I went from 2nd to 6th in overall computer standings... uFluids here I come.

Beerknurd
08-30-2006, 04:14 PM
Ok, I just noticed that uFluids is giving out extremely short WU's. They only take about 8 seconds to complete and give you anywhere from .05 to .1 credit each. I have already reached my client limit of 100 on my X2 4200. Hopefully tomorrow the WU's will be better. If you have any of these WU's, I would complete them and send them in ASAP. The WU is called bplugz.

Ok, update some of the WU's are taking longer and appear to be normal. So far one of them has been running for 23 minutes and 8 minutes... Damn this project is inconsistant.

I maybe back to BRS very soon....

Last 24 hours a new round of WU's have been crunched with lousy results, half of all my 6 hours of crunching has resulted in computational errors. No fear I am back to the WU's that result in confident outputs. The longer Wu's with times approaching 1 hr & 10 to 30 minutes are the culprits.
Be on the look out if you start crunching this project. :-(
