Come on team :!:

We are getting walloped in Red Library DLV.

Its time for a "call to arms" or we are going to lose our World Number 1 rank sooner rather than later.

It is very easy to run multiple instances of the exe file just PM me or Beerknurd if you need help.

Aight, I'll try to help.

Though I've rarely ran this program. Hope I can help, I'm currently downloading something and it's taking all my bandwidth for the next few hours.

At the start it will d/l the links and suck CPU 100% for a little while then it will behave itself.

Alright. Not a problem. I only have Riesel Sieve BOINC running.

AMDave

On it.
I overestimated the ability of boxen#3 and now it has cracked the sh*ts and gone off in a huff and is not talking to me. I'll have to sneak up on it and hit the reset button, bounce it & cut back on the next run.

Engineer Scott: Capt Kirk the Shields are at 10% we can't take another direct hit or she'll blow!!

Captain James Tiberious Kirk: Scotty how long will it take to fix her?

Science Officer Spock: If hours were like days, Repairs will take 4 days to return to operational status.

Kahn: 4 days to return to operational status gives us enough time to rule the galaxy.

Captain James Tiberious Kirk: (yelling at the top of his voice) K A H N !

I have beamed aboard Captain

I'm running 50 clients now...

I was looking over the team stats and happened upon the Ars fourms page.
They are seriously going after the AMD Users!

They've got it all graphed out and are predicting 3 days to over taking us.

I've currently got 100 clients (50 per machine) running.
I'll see if I can up that a bit and see what happens.

AMD has ramped about 40%, unfortunately, that is about 500% short of what they need...

If more teams joined up we could create a mega DDOS on the red library sites...

EDIT... wait, can't be called DDOS... might be something more like slashdot attack... lol

Ugh, my ISP doesn't like me DLVing either Modem kept on rebooting and bad traffic shaping.. :-( If i could only find another ISP offering 768KB down and 96KB up for the same price, i'd switch. It's funny that constantly running bittorent doesn't do anything, but DIMES, DLV, and MJ-12 all make my ISP angry :?:

I'm gonna have to learn how to setup Tor as a proxy and the at least run DLV and DIMES.

I'm on 20 instances for my 512 megs of RAM. It gives me around 50k a day and at the same time leaves me enough free mem to work with Visual Studio adn other programs. (with slight delays due to use of virtual memory)

07-25-2006, 09:31 AM
OK. This is freaky. I'm @ 30 clients and I have 500MB of RAM left! Just yesterday I was 30 w/ 300MB.

I'm gonna put even more on!

stagger the start gamer. when they first open they kill the processor and memory but after a few seconds they cut back and use minimal resources.

Up to 20 on one system, the other system is #1 in Tanpaku so we will just wait and see at this moment in time.

What is the prognosis at this time? Are we staying afloat or must we recruit more people to survive?

No Banter just Reality !

NeoGen
07-26-2006, 12:50 PM
Reality... well, we are about to lose our 1st rank. We would need quite a few more people to join up. Ars Technica has guys running 100 instances per computer, and in more than one computers!
Even 2nd rank will be difficult to maintain soon, Free-DC's PCZ is running at least 500 instances on his own. (spread by who knows how many machines)

Some people know no limits...

Without PCZ jumping teams, you guys would be toast.

PCZ is such a coward, why doesn't he stay on Free-DC and go for first that way??

Because he knows he will not be able to do it.

PCZ is a team jumping POS.

don't post anonymously on our site.... That is so annoying and childish. This whole thing has been taken way too seriously.... There shoud be no name calling. This is why people quit running DC projects. This is all suppost to be fun. You shouldn't be called a Piece of *hit because you decide to help someone else out. Is it really that freakin serious???

I thought that 1G of ram was all i needed, Rosetta + Red Library took 105% and asked for more.
I'll keep running but I will add more ram.

Any one have any HP D8267A ram laying around?

As posted previously there are a fixed number of links. There is no point in checking these millions of times a day. It does not benefit the project.

Our total links per day was reducing so the race for first place became a test of who had the most memory (and number of machines). After a while trying to defend the position we decided we wanted our memory back!

I'll be jumping on this bandwagon later, once i've rebuilt my PC.. although in the past i've had issues with it crashing my router... but I did get a new router last week so maybe it's that time again!

dAVE
08-01-2006, 10:55 PM
This may be a fun project but is there a danger that hitting these links hundreds of thousands of times a day may be seen as a denial of service attack. :?: dAVE.

NeoGen
08-02-2006, 12:55 AM
Not really denial of service, the requests are always met... Maybe something more like a slashdot effect. (Same danger, different attacks :P)

More people is always good. :)
We hit our peak when they didn't have a client limit set... people could run as many clients in parallel as their machines could handle. The project admins had to stop that because the load on the server was way too high, and so I think the limit now is 3 clients per account.

But in all honesty, the work is indeed being wasted, as their links database is quite small, almost any one person could check it whole in a matter of a few hours if it wasn't for the client limitations of 10 links/5 minutes. Hundreds of users are hitting on the same links hundreds of times a day, that is not productive and increases the load on those other sites as well, which is bad.

They've promised alot of changes on the upcoming version of the client and server setup, which even include graphs to show where the sites are on a world map, and where does the connection break if we can't reach it... and things like that. Hopefully too their links database grows? We'll have to wait and see...
