Anybody wanna play some dice? :)

This project is all about knowing statistically how do irregular dices land when played. But more than just irregular, these dice sometimes aren't even cubic... :P

It's fun to watch, and pretty easy to run. Just download the client and run it. No installation required. Put in our team name exactly like 'AMD Users' (without the quotes) when asked or it'll probably create a different team.

Statistics can be seen here:
http://www.quantumholism.com/cuboid/data/UserStatistic.htm

Have fun! :)

p.s. - Forgot to add, the project has a short life span...

You can contribute at any time and for as long as you like from the 20 July to the 20 October 2006.

Simulations are very fast when they speed up. I've already done 10,000+ simulations already.

I'll run this for a bit for fun. :)

Finally got it working and appear on the scoreboard.

Can it be run on BOINC?

NeoGen
08-26-2006, 01:57 AM
Unfortunately no...

It would only be possible if the developers were to create a boinc project and a wrapper for their current client... and set alot of other details straight, but since this project is on a short time frame, they went for the quickest way. (Making their own client and putting it to action)

Ok.

Already spun 11k :)

NeoGen

As of this moment's stats, I figured out exactly who are our current team members. Spikey_richie, I didn't find you yet so you'll probably appear on the next stats update. :)

The Phoenix ---- 2,121,345
Evil-Dragon ---- 1,244,152
AMD-USR_JL ---- 916,641
ototero ---- 764,574
gamer007 ---- 277,255
NeoGen ---- 260,007
vaughan ---- 224,806
Richard Helliwell ---- 44,276

The sum of the points of these people matches exactly our current Team total...5,853,056

A warm welcome to The Phoenix and to Richard Helliwell, who are currently our mystery guests. :)

What is the comparison to Intel vs. Amd? Which runs this project better??

Glad you guys have come on board as well.

One billion by Oct 20th is a tall order.

My full name is Richard Helliwell... that's me :)

I registered my full name.

NeoGen

Ah, so it's you. Didn't recognize you at first, but when you took off your glasses it was unmistakable... no, wait... that's not you, that's superman. The only guy who becomes unrecognizable when he puts his glasses on.

If ototero adds Cuboids to the stats I'll remember him to merge your value to the main spikey_richie on the stats.

We got another brand new member on our team, his nickname is Kyle and he just entered the stats with 8,546 points. If you read this Kyle, then welcome aboard! :)

Ototero

Do you want me to add them ?

Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Well I'm guessing that our team here is :

The Phoenix
ototero
AMD-USR_JL
Evil-Dragon
gamer007
vaughan
NeoGen
Richard Helliwell
Kyle
LeBo Riddley
simone severini
Derek Rogers
Nihang Shah
Christopher Cox

At the time of posting, their individual scores add up to the total. I know 9 of these, does anyone know the others?

Welcome Twilight,

Just after I posted, Cuboids changed their site, it now shows teams :D

Cuboids stats! Cool! :D

Thanks Ototero. ;)

The Phoenix is by far our top cruncher on Cuboids, and has recently entered the Top-5!
Way to go Phoenix! :D

vaughan

That's some mighty fine crunching. Well done The Phoenix. :!:

Nice going Phoenix, have you noticed the calculations getting longer?

Evil-Dragon
08-29-2006, 11:47 PM
Yes, they're getting alot longer.

Twilight

The simulation is now creeping along at around one toss every few seconds.
I clicked the "Animate" button and was shocked to see that it's performing
simulations where the cube bounces hundreds of times per toss!

I don't know, seems a bit unrealistic for a simulation?

NeoGen
08-30-2006, 03:37 PM
I don't know... they say on the site that they're pointing to a billion combinations of throws, so somewhere in that billion there should be some wicked throws... it's possible that someone on a 100th floor of a sky scraper wants to throw a cuboid out the window and see how it lands...

Twilight
08-30-2006, 04:41 PM
Geez...it must have been spinning at a million rpm when it went out the window! LOL

Can we get the person who threw it to play for the NY METS? \:D/

Oh it's running.
It's just not showing the full animation.

When you click on animate it will slow down for so many seconds and show you
the full animation of the simulation in progress after which it will speed up again.

numibesi
09-01-2006, 05:15 PM
oh ok thx :),

i'll wait then to see what it shows ;)

NeoGen
09-02-2006, 11:14 AM
Welcome numibesi! Long time no see :)

The client is just like that, it starts showing the cuboids jumping and spinning, but after a few seconds it speeds up and stops showing the animation.
I guess it's a good thing, instead of using the cpu power to show the animations it reverts full power to the calculations, but even so I feel that it should have a place to click where it would set the animation to keep showing indefinetly. I like to see the cuboids jumping and spinning. :)

09-02-2006, 11:52 AM
Whoa. Hey numibesi. It's been a long time. You probably don't remember me though, I wasn't that active until many months ago.

Good to see you here though. :)

PS: Is it me? Or has simulations gone slower? Even without the full sims running, it takes a couple seconds do 1 sim. Before the # constantly when up each second. :?

Ototero

The Cuboids stats were a bit crazy today. Everybody lost points, places were swapped, I even became team No. 1.

But that is back to normal now. Tomorrows stats will look odd because everyone will have massive gains.

C'est la vie.

gamer007

And a new announcement!

The cuboid simulation project has been extended because of the interesting results so far obtained. We now aim to achieve as many tosses as possible until December 31 2006. :)

Can get this prog to run on only one core on a duel proc. How do I get it to use both cores?

Ototero
09-12-2006, 08:42 PM
Sorry I can't help. I'm a single core kind of guy

What about renaming the 2nd exe.

LeBo
09-12-2006, 08:53 PM
I will try to run it with the -local switch with two different directories and set the affinity to different procs

Ototero
12-29-2006, 11:05 PM
Bump.

Neo, trying to come up on the blind side to take number 1 spot just before the project closes?

Nice try but the Stats Man checks these things everyday, mwaaaahaha!

NeoGen
12-29-2006, 11:26 PM

Yea... It was a good try. :icon_mrgreen:
But the Stats Man sees everything... It's like the All Seeing Eye on the Lord of The Rings movie... :icon_lol:
It's a pity that I wasn't able to run cuboids on my work machine... I think it doesn't establish connection through the company firewall. Or you would have had much more trouble to keep me behind. :icon_twisted:

Does this use processor power? Or just the internet?

gamer007
12-30-2006, 03:32 AM
Mainly processing power. It uses the internet when you open the client to connect to the server/close the client (and maybe periodically while the client is running) to upload the data.
