Guys!

This is my new rig as will arrive next week. As you can see it is no AMD. It is a Intel E6600. I as is a fan of AMD why have I bought an Intel? Yes, it will supersede my Intel PII, 350 MHz, 128 MB RAM and 6 GB HDD 4.000 rpm as not can run whatever I want. But also I imagine AMD’s new cores will be too expansive. And another thing: I had told the forum I want a cruncher and Intel is undoubtedly the most powerfully of them booth today. Now I can put the new computer in every project if I prefer that.

Great thanks will go to Vaughan.:icon_thumright: I was :help: less and turned me to him and attached my configurations to him by E-mail. My experience and knowledge about different data parts is very limited. What is suitable or what is not suitable among these parts such memory, graphic card, motherboards? We have changed E-mails to each other and he has given me some good advice. An example was the graphic card as he said was too weak so I have chosen another one. Also I was worry about the cooling but he calmed me. He have been in Sweden (not personally) but through Internet and watch www.komplett.se (http://www.komplett.se/). Thanks goes even AMDave and Blackheath as have helped me on the way even if in not been a AMD.:icon_wink: We can say they push me on the back.

I was not so interested of ask you guys because I got so many different answers. It had been OK if I should build it myself. The new computer is configured from a existing computer and I have change these components: Processor, memory and graphic cards as has decreased and choose a cheaper floppy and a DVD-reader/player instead for a DVD-burner as was cheaper.

But I will yet thank you guys as have post in the Motherboard tread. I have been aware what we can buy not only ASUS, gigabyte and many more. You guys as has a lot of good experience and knowledge please continue post and tell us what you know because many other will appreciate it.

I will yet not retire my old girl. My hearth loves her too hard for that. She will continue in the background running MoneyBee as she does well and not need my help with a feeding bottle and a dummy (pacifier) :icon_biggrin: She is now 6 year.

Next step for you guys will be to talk to me how I will run the Core2 duo in Boinc and other project. Need I 2 clients or is it enough with 1? Which project has you run and found fit the both cores well or bad? Have you run 2 different non Boinc project or a combination of Boinc and for example FAH?

Lagu, to run a dual core or even quad core on boinc and take full advantage of all cores, you just have to log in to a project website, any project, go to your account, click on the general preferences, and set it to use 2 (or more) processors. The change there will spread across all projects and (after you click on boinc to update) your boinc will start crunching two workunits at the same time, maybe from the same project or from different projects, that depends on configurations.

Now unleash that hungry wolf and let him chase all the sheep here! hehe

I’ve got a PM from Komplett today where they told me they have sent my Intel today and I think it will arrive tomorrow or on Tuesday.

I have ponder use this computer for my private need using Internet and Word or Excel or sometime Windows player when watching video clips for example. I use to do this on my AMD Athlon 3200+ and I can’t se any increase of the performance. Perhaps it is there but it is difficult to see.

Instead my AMD 3200+ will be a computer as I not need to use for my private need. I only need Internet and say WordPad because I will remove Office from this computer + some other software. I have also MS Works as I can use for writing. Then this computer may run along in the silent.

I don’t know if Intel Core2 Duo will slow down if I use it as I use my AMD. I think there is so mush power and performance so if I use it for my private need the performance should only be marginal poorly.

I have my E-post dresses on my AMD. How can I save it and move it over to my new Intel? And if I will save all posts I have got is it possible move it over and if how can I do that? I have XP on both but no network. They are connected to a router and modem only.

I have a 512 MB USB memory whish is good for backups of all files + project files.

Any advice is most welcome:)

Are you using Outlook, Outlook Express or something else for your emails?

Talking about 2 cores:

I think one core use 100 %
And the second 100% but I suspect this is wrong or isn’t?

Say I run 2 Boinc task on the core2 Duo.
Will it mean they use 50 % each to crunch both WU´s? :icon_confused:

Within task manager when running BOINC with 2 tasks both will run at 50 but the CPU usage will be at 100%.

The Core 2 Duo's are amazing. It pains me to see the adverts on TV where they promote them as the best chips in the world. (Personally I prefer my local chippy's ;) ) but it's true they are currently the best.

Lagu, my Core Duo runs 2 Folding clients. Running just one shows up in the windows manager as 100% in one core on the grpah but the bottom left corner says 50%. Run 2 and I'm at full whack.

Blackheath's said what needs to be done with BOINC and AFAIK thats it spot on.

NeoGen I almost forgot about Pirch and Mirc, That is a way the members could communicate if we do not get our java chat room back, setup a chat server exclusive to this web site? What do you think?

I don't know how to set a chat server, but we have it on our wishlist and Jeff has seen a few sometime ago, so I believe that soon when he has some more time off he'll set one up for us.

I have some chat room experience, both server admin and configuration. There are plenty of IRCD's (IRC Server Daemon) on the web.

I might be a bit rusty but i'm sure it's in my mind somewhere :icon_biggrin:

Blackheat, I have some difficulties understand the word "Data file Management". My outlook is in Swedish and can this complicated word be written in another words? I have tried search after "pst" with no results. Then I searched after outlook witk a more advanced alternative and found Outlook.srs 3 Kb + another Outlook with its typical icon 23 Mb. I can se in whish map it is.

When I click on "Personal folder" a page appear as is Personal folder - Outlook today. Is it this page it means?

Then what step should I use? there is only 3 steps for 2003. Should I use some more steps as chowns here? You can E-mail me if you want.

Outlook (http://email.about.com/od/outlook/) stores all your data (email messages, contacts, your calendars, and more) in ominous "Personal Folder" (.pst) files. They are proprietary and complicated, and it's a good idea to back them up now and then. First you need to find the location where Outlook keeps your .pst files, however.
Where Outlook Stores Your Mail, Calendar and Other Data

To identify the folder where Outlook 2003 stores your email messages and other data:

Select File | Data File Management... from the menu.
Highlight your main data file (typically named Personal Folders).
Click Open Folder....To identify the folder where Outlook 2002 and earlier store your data:

Click with the right mouse button on Outlook Today either in the Outlook bar or in the folder list.
Select Properties from the pop-up menu.
Select Advanced....
Notice the path listed under Path:.
Select the path excluding the file name (usually this will be "outlook.pst") with your mouse.
Press Ctrl-C to copy the path.
If, for example, the path listed under Path: is "C:\Documents and Settings\email.guide\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst", you'd select and copy "C:\Documents and Settings\email.guide\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\".
Now select Run... from the Start menu.
Press Ctrl-V to paste the path
Hit Enter to open your Outlook data folder in Windows Explorer.

No worries Lagu it wasn't that clear when I read it as well.

You need to go to the following location:

C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Outlook

All the .PST files reside in this location!

*NOTE*
The ...\Local Settings folder is often hidden so make sure you have set 'Windows Explorer' to view Hidden files by selecting the following menu option in 'Windows Explorer':

Menu : Tools
Menu : Folder Options
Menu Tab : View
Checkbox : Show hidden files and folders

Now has my Intel arrived and it has gone fast. I ordered it OCT 11 and got it OCT 15 with a weekend between. I have open the side panel and looked in the case. To my satisfaction there were 3 fans, one 75-80 mm on the processor with an air canal mounted on the side panel as will steer the hot air trough perforated holes and one 120 mm on the side panel where the air will go through perforate holes and one 120 mm on the back on the case. They had mounted all cables as fine it can be.

I got a fem parts as had left. 2 USB ports with connectors to the motherboard and a contact for ditto, a speaker ground contact and a 15 holes adapter for playing with a game controller I guess. And 2 cables to a DVD-burner or what is now it.

Drivers for ASUS motherboard, Cyber Link DVD Solutions, NERO 7 Essentials, Works 8.5 and drivers for XFX GeForce 7300GT and guide for motherboards, Graphic card and Intel Dual2 Core has followed.

I have not chosen and DVD-burner, only a simple floppy and a DVD-reader. I have also choose Logitech OEM Optical Wheel Mouse, I thought it was wireless but I was mistaken. It has a cable as I must fit on the back on the computer. But it has an advantage, I need not to buy batteries at is expansive. Alternative I can use my Labtec Wireless Optical Mouse Pro.

A good friend comes to me yesterday evening so I only have unpacked the computer and all parts. But today I will shout my AMD Athlon 3200+ down and do a little maintains such to clean it before I fired it up again and instead replace my old Intel PII and fire up my Dual2 Core and download some updates, programs and fetch a new Boinc client specially for Intel. It will be unused because I long have been thinking of what as fit AMD.

Is there anyone as can give me a tip about an Optimised Boinc client specially for Intel. And it is any idea has one with SSE3?

I solved the wireless mouse battery problem with a package of recharagable AA batteries and a charger on my desk. Then I got this KVM switch and had to go back to wired everything. lol

The only one I know is in BOINC Riesel Sieve. They have several optimized clients including the CMOV-SSE2 version that suits Intels. I use it on my P4s, Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors. It gives at least a 5% improvement in crunching.

The Wolf is now up and running but only Whatpulse so far. Have change keyboard to Labtec Ultra Slim and mouse too. I have also installed Office and will also install Works. Installed drivers for my HP Deskjet 720 and will take a cop of coffee :icon_biggrin: before I went to Windows Update. The case has perforated holes in both corners and a nice a nice blue colour is chining into the case. I now know the graphic card is an Nvidia ship.

My Athlon was so full of dust. I have run it with open side and I think it is the cause. Now I have to work with it and clean the fans and other spaces.

Perhaps I can download Boinc and run it lather. :icon_wink:
