A beta LLR application has been released on RieselSieve. WU's are between 4-6 mins each, so great for old low spec machines!


2006-11-19 21:49:35 UTC LLR Test Application Now Available
We have enabled a test application using LLR. In order to crunch LLR workunits, you will need to edit your preferences for Riesel Sieve and "Allow test applications". You can set P4 clients to run the test application using a venue (home, work, or school), and then they will run LLR as long as work is available. We plan to have processor detection/selection in the near future, but the venues will serve as a temporary workaround.

If you have any questions/problems with the new LLR application, please visit the forums.I haven't had any WU's error out at the moment, but then i never seem to have many problems with projects these days.

EDIT: Btw, it runs on all CPU's, not just P4's!

Wonder how they can run between 4 and 6 mins when an LLR test on there own app takes hours?

Do they say P4's because of SSE2/3, or any processor feature that is required for the application to run?

WU's are much much shorter than the usual bunch.

App runs on any processor as far as i'm aware.

In Riesel Sieve, P4's make quicker work at LLR and AMD processor's make best work at sieving.

Thereofore it makes sense to sieve with AMD processor's. Or at least it did until they brought out the BOINC. I want to know how the LLR is credited.

They're still working out the crediting for llr. Most of my WU's are pending at the moment.

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly are LLRs? What does LLR stand for?

I think it's Lucas-Lehmer... something. But basically, it's taking a given large number and testing it to see if it's prime or not through some weird calculations that I don't have a clue how they are... lol
