well, they better get a move on cuz Intel is doing a hell of a business right now.

This is a real quad-core right? It's not one of those 2-duals-glued-together kind of quad-cores I hope...

I wonder how long will it take until we got octo-cores and hexa-cores... :)

personally, i don't care if they are screwed together cores, as long as they do what they are intended to do. that is, run 4 DC projects on 1 cpu...:icon_cool:

and i do believe Intel is planning an eight core soon, something like 1st quarter,2008.

Why not just get a Tyon board with dual sockets and run a pair of X2's? It'll save you a butt load of money.

Hmm... two cpu's on one board makes it twice the heat and energy consumption, no? Then again, those quad-cores are known to be very energy hungry too...

Let me see 2 $300 cores vs a $1500 core, diff might pay a few light bills.

Intel said a while back in an interview that they were planning on around 50 cores in a 5-6 year time frame. Just think how cheap 25 core CPUs will be then. :D

Intel are living in a dream world, look how long it took them to develop a working dual core (not emulated hyperthreading rubbish) They're having enough trouble fitting a 4 core into the die let alone 50 cores.

Unless nanotechnology takes off in a big way, i cannot see it happening until at least 10-15 years down the line.

More insight to AMD Enterprise Quad Core with graphics to explain the insight your seeking: http://virtualexperience.amd.com/index.html?cid=quadcore&co=quadcore ***Note you should have a broadband connection for this*** This highlights that this is a real deal, no two dual cores slapped together, a seemless operation of 4 cores working as one! Allow the main thread to go the whole distance before you seek out new areas to observe. The main presenter explains the nuances Intel just doesn't seem to understand yet! Too Bad intel fellows, ha ha ha

That's okay, we're kicking butt right now anyway ... :icon_razz:

Intel is coming out with a Native Quad Core in a few months.

I bet that's going to be expensive...

It sounds to me like AMD may be able to get back into the lead with top of the line processors by Summer of '07.

Now THAT would be awesome!

I think it would be fun to try setting up a dual dual-core setup, and run sume benchmarks ... it would make a nice little home server (to replace my 2.7ghz celeron...)

Wait, I just had a thought! what about when you put 4x quad core cpus on one board!!! 14 cores?! wowzerz! :qgreenjumpers:

New math lesson, 4 x 4 equals 14 in pCManiac's point of view, NeoGen believes it equals 16, I think if you combine the GPU processing cabailities included you could potentially run upto 4 more Graphics Cards for a system. This brings the total to about 20, for an original design of 4 quad cores on one board? Where else could we isolate a processing power on one board? Anyone! Why stop here, there has got to be some designing innovations ready to adapt our thought of processing even more stuff!

Sounds like system bloat to me.
