This is the Distributed Rainbow Table Generator project of TheMinouche Research Laboratories.

It is a community project dedicated to large scale distributed calculation of huge Rainbow Tables.

More details about Rainbow tables here:

Vaughan,

Let me know if and when you join, and I will transfer the ownership. Or I can keep it... I'm not going anywhere...

Hi Beerknurd. I'm in too. :)

Eek! 17½ hours per task on my XP3200+ I hope that improves.

I transfered the project over to you Vaughan.

Haw haw. Initial raw estimates are usually high.
It looks like they range from 2 hours to 5 hours depending on CPU.

meshmar

It estimated that same 17.5 hrs for my Athlon 64 3500+ ... and immediately said my system was over-committed after dl'ing 4 WUs :sad5:

AMDave

The estimate comes down fast as the wu's are completed.
No worries.

The first unit took 2 hrs 49 mins

AMDave

3hrs 50 mins for me.

My 1st one took just over 1 hour.

And there's a quorum of 1. Hehehe, credits galore!

I guess if you like watching Grass Grow this is a good Project. I haven't had a Credit increase in over 12 hr's although I've turned in a Ton of Results. I hope this isn't going to be one of those Projects that nothing ever gets Validated ...

Beerknurd

My credits are coming in slowly but surely... I still have over 1000 points pending...

meshmar
12-28-2006, 01:06 PM
I have to wait for my system to decide it's not over-committed before I even start processing a WU

PoorBoy
12-28-2006, 01:19 PM
Something is out of Whack with this Project. I just turned in 2 WU's a few Minutes ago and my Pending Credits only went up by 1 WU & my Credits didn't increase. Then a few minutes later the Pending WU's went down by 1 yet my Credits still didn't increase. I had a feeling earlier that my Pending or Credits weren't really going up by as much as it should for the amount of WU's I was turning in & what I just saw happen is probably the reason for it.

Beerknurd
12-28-2006, 01:26 PM
I'm up to 1300+ points pending... I am sensing another Sztaki. I am getting Sztaki credits 3 months after I finish the WU...

I am also a little skeptical about this project. There seems to be questions about security... It has me on my toes...

Beer,

Yeah. It's not all comfy and warm is it?
I'm asking them to respond directly to the 2 most serious concerns that were not addressed in Spudster's response to Tank and PovAddict.

btw. That 2nd url is unavailable from here

I like to see the outward thrust of discussion that AMDave (http://hashbreaker.com:8700/tmrldrtg/forum_thread.php?id=1) points out, giving out the tables and source code to all is way too much for a monkey. But every cracker has his vice and that is gathering information. As a former fugitive of the law per say, and now working as a security consultant to the law, I can tell you that statement hits home.
The whole conversation is like giving the crook the keys to the safe! Not Good!

LOL. You fixed it like a new one. Cheers !

I'm not certain I like this project. Almost seems as if distributed computers are being used to provide processing power to hack passwords. Distributed computing equates to the world's fastest super computer.

gamer007

That is why I've detached. They only got 2 WUs process from me, 1 was being uploaded (8mb WU too!) while I detached.

I'm not sure whether I can trust this project.

Is this project safe? i signed up and started crunching WU's. What should i do?

meshmar

I did two WU and detached ... sounds to shady for me.

I will go with the general flow of people on here for this project. I'm not sure if i can justify my CPU time to aid password crackers.

I ran 3 units and stopped too.

The thought of this flashed through my noggin when I read of this project. Whether or not that is what is actually happening here, it's just a matter of time before someone runs a project to do that.

How does John Q. Public know what is really in any work unit their system is crunching really? Unless it is from an acknowledged reputable project like seti, f@h, Baker Labs, distributed.net, etc. Boinc has made it really easy for people to throw up projects, and all too many people just join any and all new boinc projects and start crunching away to try and be #1. And then what is legal in one country may not be legal in another... So really it's all a bit of a wake up call for people to be a bit more discerning about what they are crunching.

Exactly. With power comes responsibility. We expect it from our leaders, the same should hold true for us - unless we happen to think that double standards are acceptable. I think we would be foolish and irresponsible to help develop, test and potentially apply algorithims to crack passwords that may be protecting us.

Don't get on the train unless you know where it is going. In this case not only don't we know, but we highly suspect the destination.

RONALD

Yeah thats the fact indeed to suspect the

destination.Well as sad know the destination before you board a train as such

similar with the case of cracking a password.
