I have some old (xp1800+) systems that I'm looking at possibly spending some bucks to replace. One of the cpu's I'm looking at is one of the faster C2D's. I am interested in how they perform on D2OL as compared to say an X2 4800 AM2 system. Does anyone here have any C2D's running on this project that could offer some insight? As things sit right now I'm an AMD house, with only one 2.8 x533 Celeron here that I rarely even run unless something else is broken.

Why a C2D? Because there are some things I'm interested in such as PSP llrnet that the C2D cleans up on better than the AMD's. Linux-64 is the intended O/S. Comments as to your experience, components, thoughts, logic, etc.???

I have an Intel Core2 Duo and I have run D2OL on one core for a while and at the same time my AMD Athlon 64 3200+ ran it too. As most the Intel finished 180 WU´s while AMD only finished 160. But it is depending of how heavy the calculation is if it is many as is light and fewer as is heavy. But it used to be a mix of them. But of what I have noticed the Intel always produce more than AMD. Sometimes they seems be equal fast but after a day and night the Intel has higher points.

Hope this say you anyting but compared with an AMD 3800+ or 4800+ I cant say for sure but perhaps they is faster. :)

Thank you for the info Lagu! :)

Which C2D do you have?

Brucifer I have recently an XP2100+ and Gigabyte 7vrx m/b with an Asrock 775 Dual-VSTA m/b and e6300 C2D cpu. Win XP Home recognised the new hardware OK and asked me to re-validate / authorise the Windows due to the h/w change. This went smoothly. The Asrock board allowed me to use my old AGP graphics card and DDR 400 ram. I expected to have to format the HDD and re-install Windows so I was very surprised it all just worked. I'll run some D2OL tasks and see how it performs.

My other C2D is the e6600 also running on the same model Asrock board. I went this way with this new system as the dual-VSTA is very cheap (AUD77) and I could use my old ram and GPU. Recently I put in some DDR2 RAM as I tried to o/c a little but this board isn't too keen on overclocking! I'll see how it runs at D2OL too.

I have been using both for BOINC Riesel Sieve and Pi Segment so maybe its time for them to crunch some other tasks anyway. :)

Which C2D do you have?

Intel Core2 Duo E6600, 2,40 MHz (Conroe)
Socket LGA775 4MB, 65nm
Mobo: ASUS P5B, P965 with the tool (Ai Suite) for easy over clock and for checking speed and temperature and much more.
Supports MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3 and EM64T
1 GB Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR, 400MHz

I have yet not over clocked the computer. I have tested it but change back to normal. When I test over clock the computer was stable. No problem.:)

e6300 C2D using 1 core on D2OL = 158 tasks in 24hrs (other core was running either Pi Segment or eOn).

It's not bad but this is from a 3700+ and it averages 195 a day......1,132/5.6 days

And my 4800+ is doing about 180 on each core

What I was getting at though on his 6300 was that for the "not on top" verions of C2D that was doing pretty well. What it will do much better than the AMD's is stuff like psp llrnet, which the amd's just really suck at in comparisson.

I've also noted a large difference in what my systems will crunch out on d2ol, as different motherboards sure give different results with the same horsepower cpu. :)

I am running d2ol on my vista computer, because that is the only OS I seem to use any more, lol. it looks like I am only averaging around 65 a day, but that is probably because I am playing games on it too...

anyway, back to the topic; I am sure everyone already knows this, but if you want to use say D2OL on BOTH cpu's on your c2d, install d2ol in 2 separate directories, and then they will both run at the same time.

( I just figured this out last week :P )
