I have it running on one pc now. They changed the look and feel a bit. I'll see if its any faster/slower than before. I dont really see any big improvements yet.

I installed it on 1 PC, now BOINCView doesn't want to pick that PC up anymore. In fact it locks up the BOINC Manager when I try to use BOINCView now ... And the Messages in the Manager doesn't indicate any thing at all of a call being put in to that PC & I don't see a Remote Control Allowed message on start up of the BOINC Client.

Don't know what the problem is, if I re-install v5.4.11 then BOINCView works on that PC again, why it's not allowing a Remote Call I don't have a clue other than somethings changed in the Client.

In itself 5.8.8 won't be any faster because the science apps from the projects do the actual crunching. It does however report the processor capabilities so that projects can write specific apps just for processors capable of certain instruction sets like SSE3. If, and when, these apps come out you should see significant speed advances.
The downside is that 5.8.8 gets its information from the OS. Linux users with the latest processors will see an very long and impressive list of capabilities:qgreenjumpers:
XP users will see only a few because XP doesn't recognise them all, ie you won't see SSE3. After all Mr GATES wants you to buy Vista so he has not been keeping XP up to date for some time. :(
Let me know if you have any problems, dAVE.

PoorBoy,

Try upgrading BoincView to release 1.4.1 beta4, as some changes in core client 5.8.8 seem to create problems with older versions of BoincView.

Linux version is still a beta according to there website.

I downloaded it just to see these new features if I can...but I grabbed 5.4.11 and installed before I realised what had happened.

Might try connecting to a project. No doubt it'll turn me away because I'm using a 64bit OS and thus they don't like them (from my exprience before)

Poorboy. Try using IP addresses in your remote_hosts.cfg file. 5.8.8 has a problem using names. I can't test using names as I have no name server on my system. IP addresses works for me using BOINC view 1.2.5 dAVE
5.8.8 does not report Remote control allowed even if it is.

Well I tried the new version 1.4.1 beta 4 & using the Host IP Address, still won't pick up the PC. Guess I'll just go back to BOINC Version v5.4.11. Seems any version above that is a mess of problems yet from all the E-Mails I get every day. I don't know how they can recommend any of the newer version yet.

5.8.9 is due to go into testing next week so it may be wise to hold off upgrading if you are remotely accessing BOINC or if you are using a dial up and want BOINC to dial up automatically when it needs to communicate. dAVE

Apparently from what I'm reading in my E-Mails is that there are some Connection issues with v5.8.8. In fact right now I installed it on another PC and it yet has to Connect to any Project. It just try's and then quits responding ... I'll just wait for the next release and see if BOINCView works with that one ... Thanks anyway for trying to help ...

Tried it and it was OK. Appears it's still Beta for Linux. Seems the linux/windows credit divide is smaller now :) There going in the right direction but I'll stick with F@H ATM.

I dunno whether I should upgrade? I'm still liking my 5.5.0 Crunch3r's.
Maybe I'll upgrade my brother's BOINC.

are they going to have a 64bit version?

I finally got BOINCView to work with BOINC Client 5.8.8 ... The Problem was I had 2 set's of host names in my gui_rpc_auth file ... I've always run it this way with no problem but for some reason v5.8.8 couldn't figure out which name to use I guess.
So for the heck of it I deleted the 1 set that really wasn't the name of the host but more the description of it that Windows uses when installing the OS. Once I did that BOINCView picked right up on it and monitored it properly ... :D

Thanks for any suggestions to get it working ...
