Maybe it's just me that am naive in these financial subjects, but after reading this I got the feeling that all that was just speculation to shake the stock market...

Apparently ATI had some costs that AMD wasn't prepared for, but this kind of stuff happens in business. If you go out and put down a down payment on a car, buy insurance, pay taxes and fill it up, you're going to be a bit strapped for cash too. Different venue, but the same concept.
