Easy Projects to Clinch No.1

After reading Moderna's post about gaining another number spot and getting focused, i thought it was something that should get done.

After shifting through all the stats, i only tried to mention projects that only need less than 3 millions points to take. Let me know what you think and then we can get some polls going.

Only need 1.3 million, Literately no competition, because they have big WUs with no checkpoints.

Only need 300K, small competition. This is my personal pick.

Only need 100K, small competition. May possibly only be a test project

Only need 2.8 million. Small competition. Slow/old computers get same amount of credit as fast ones.

VTU is out of work..... I have tried to connect several times, and they always are out... Hence my 0 credit in the project... :lol:

I still like this idea of having a Team Project. We were sort of getting there after Pi. The poll is a good place to start.

Some project questions: BOINC, non-BOINC, goal (this sets the time limit), or just run up some points...

**We could also have an AMD Users Board Poll asking how everyone feels about running 'Special Projects' once a month or so...

Pick a Project and run with it to a fixed goal, 10th, 5th, 1st or set a time limit for a week or 2? But we should work to a goal, and have another goal ready and waiting (Schedule of Events?).

If we run a 'Focus' Project, we should be planning our next move before the project ends, be it points, place or time. I can see running a 'Focus' project for a minimum of 2 weeks. It would take us a few days to get everyone up to speed.

I'm also unsure what effect of our throwing hugh amounts of cpu's on a project has on the normal cruncher. Unless it's needed I am werking on spreading my boxes out to my pet projects (i think i have ~6), and moving a few over to the 'Project of the week', whatever that turns out to be.

I want to help where it's needed or asked for.

I agree Bender. I am thinking that a polling system would be great.

The polls could go someting like this:

1. BOINC or Non-BOINC
2. Which project
3. How long to run that project (you can put the postition or time in same poll by saying "until 1st or until 5th."
4. Then someone (moderator) would create a read-only thread that showed the schedule of our events.)

Anyone could start a poll, but they would have to get a majority (50%) to go on to the next one. For example, 50% say BOINC, 50% say Tanpaku, 50% say one week. That way we will at least have half of the team wanting to run that project.

How does this sound?

The poll is a good way to get our community involved. If we are going to try this approach, we have to try and establish some polling guidelines. Along what you have is a good place to start.

My thoughts:

TMRL DRTG: Won't touch this one, too many ethical issues about helping hackers with cracking passwords.

PrimeGrid: I actually quite like PrimeGrid and will be crunching this one again soon to get myself some more Titan primes! I am more than willing to help out on this one.

RCN: I never could quite see the benefit to humanity by figuring out the least amount of lines that cross from X points. I'm not very inclined to work on this one, you can tell this from my points racked up.

SZTAKI: This project is on my list to build to 10,000 points.

Proteins@Home: Won't touch this until i start my build to 20,000 points or in a race. I quite liked this project.

VTU: Don't see the point in wasting cycles on test projects. If they annouced that they were planning to do something of use then of course i would contribute.

Xtrem Lab: I've never seen anything good happen to BOINC from this project. Exactly what is it that they are trying to achieve?

Wow, thanks i didn't know this was what the project was doing. Know that i read that wikipedia article i get what you are saying. "Rainbow" tables seemed friendly though.
