I got this E-mail from the Zivis staff today:

We are launching some sets of calculations that generate a file of about 250Mbytes, very hard to upload if you are sharing an ADSL (but it fits throught if BOINC is the only application uploading).

If you can cope with this upload rate, please enable "Run test applications" in your user settings.

The WU takes 23 minutes on Intel and create a 250 MB file. The largest I have seen was at 95 MB. If I had tu crunch a 250 MB file it should takes many weeks perhaps more.:)

Considering the nature of the project, I'd rather have my PC slog through some Tanpaku, Primegrid or WCG units.

I couldn't agree more...

I couldn't agree more...

Me too, that is the whole reason I stopped running the project.

I went to the site (at the time I got the email) and activated the "run test application" option on my settings, and also only received a single one in all this time. They are probably very rare or maybe even already over.

During the time I wrote another message the modem lamp begin blink intensively. I went over to my AMD Athlon 5126EA 1001 MHz and there was a finished Zivis file as had taken 1.01,42 hour file and created a large file of 229,11 MB as was under uploading. I have 8 MBit’s broadband and have choose 700 KB upstream but the speed is only 31,05 Kbps. The upload was finished after 2.10.22 hour.

Vaughan and C/o: Uncheck “run test application/beta test” if you want to run Zivis to avoid your ISP ban you or if you have a limited bandwidth.

My ISP just started throttling my connection between 4pm and 23:59pm dropping my connection down by 75% in speed. No more Majestic-12, no more massive downloads, just a crap ISP called Virgin Media :(

I have got one more 229MB file as is uploading right now. I have unchecked "Betatesting" because my other WU´s are delayed and some got 0.0 points and other far to low one. I have sent an E-mail to them asking for higher points and why the upload is so slow. If they ask us volounters run WU´s as create such large files they should have a faster connection upwards. The speed of 30 Kpbs is as I not have a modem or router only an slow 256 kbps slow intern modem of the old type.
Whu are they asking for our speed in the preference when they not can support what peoples say they have up and down?:icon_wink:
