Monitoring system

i am relitavley new to upgrading, overclocking etc. What do u guys reccomend as a systme monitor to give me temps, voltages etc ??
i have tried MBM5 but didnt really like it. On my 1st m-board i got a monitor with it, it was excellent told me exactly what i wanted and not loads of stats i dont care about. any ideas about what to use??

mdm5 allows you delete all guages not wanted, and just leave the cpu temp.

I have it but dont use it.

on my board its an ASrock K7S8XE+ on the manual etc it says it has hybrid boosting. this as i interpredited menas safe overclocking (if there is safe overclocking lol). Anyway anyone know of software i could use in conjunction with this or have i misinterprited it??

i have the same boards as you but have never got round to over clocking them because it has to be done on the board so i have stayed well clear of it. one board has 1gig of 333 with 2400+ and the other has 512 of 333 with a 2600+ both have aero 7's and cpu temp on both at full load has never got above 34C

u went for 333 then - in the manual i read only 1 slot is 400 compatitable and the other 2 are 333. do u have 2x512 sticks then or 1 gig stick :S. atm i only have 512 DDR 400 but will sell this and upgrade to 1 gig stick when back from holiday (going on thursday)

on the 2400+ its 2 sticks of 512 and on stick on the 2600+

If you can afford it... splitting memory usage / capacity into two
sticks of the same type and speed is better.

This allows the memory controller to do 'bank interleaving'. You
obtain much faster memory performance even at the slower speed.


2 sticks of 333 are MUCH faster than 1 stick of 400.

The reason for this is the last parameter in the memory timing (which nobody ever notices).... It's called the DDR Delay Timer, or Idle timer. It is the total amount of time the memory must sit quiet so it can perform its own internal refresh, etc.... CAS 2 or CAS 3... it doesn't much matter....... you still typically have a delay of 16.... YES '16' wasted cpu clock cycles. That is why having 2 sticks is faster.... Doing the math is easy once you draw it out on paper and figure out the overlap period.



If you have two sticks... Your memory controller switches from using the first stick to using the 2nd stick just as this 'idle time' begins. What you see is a nearly continuous flow of data from memory.... No time is wasted in a 'forced idle'.

my motherboard can take 1 stick DDR400 and 2 stick DDR 333 - u would recommend me getting 2 512 sticks of 333 than 1 gig stick of 400.
u seem to know what ur talking about, so ill go with what u say and get me 2 DDR333 sticks, thanx m8 :thumbleft:
