About Eternity2.net

Eternity2.net is an exciting new project that uses Internet-connected computers to try to solve the EternityII™ (http://www.eternityii.com/) puzzle.
You can participate by downloading and running a free program on your computer. This program is hosted by the BOINC (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/) framework - the same reliable, secure framework that is used for a large number of other distributed projects. (such as seti@home). The BOINC framework ensures you can contribute your CPU cycles in a safe manner, within the parameters that you specify.
Eternity2.net is organised by Dave Clark in Auckland, New Zealand, when he isn't working or spending time with his wife and two young children.

Applications for Windows and Linux are available.

PROBLEM - Seems like right now there's a file missing and the workunits don't run. :icon_neutral:

You have to read the fine details of the Project holy cow, this one is going to be difficult, you actually have to do some external work here in assembling a text file. This text file is explained here:http://eternity2.net/definition.php

You should have purchased the game so you will understand what puzzle pieces you are referring too in your quest to write the perfect algorithm~! :sad5:

Link to actual GAME => http://uk.eternityii.com/competition-rules-eternity2/ This does not start till 7-28-07

Ah, I see. I didnt buy the game. Here is a online demo of a working puzzle to try.

The Online DEMO is too much I can't solve this blasted game! God this is frustrating, nerve racking, ball busting~! It is tormenting my mind into submission..... Why do I frustrate myself over such a trivial $1,000,000.oo US Dollars as a prize to succeed with figuring out this game! :icon_twisted::icon_mad::icon_razz::icon_lol: :blob3:

Your not the only one. That online demo looks easy. That's when I had 1-2 pieces left and they don't fit. Gave up after 10mins.

I don't get it... following the instructions, won't everyone create the exact same pieces file every time?

And if not, how many times would we have to create new text files? Once for each workunit?

That sounds like a good question to email the developer and ask There NeoGen?

I left a couple of posts on the project's boards. Will wait a day for a reply...

It sounds like someone has to buy the game first, and generate the text file....using the pieces?

This should be a one time deal, if all the games have the same pieces (they should..).

As always, nothing comes for free... It's a copyright thing. :-(

Hi NeoGen.
Congratulations on being the very first user of the message boards (and one of the very first users of eternity2.net!)
The reason that the pieces descriptions are not going to be made publicly available is because they are copyrighted to the owner (TOMY UK).
By forcing each user to create the descriptions themselves, then the eternity2.net site will not be infringing any copyrights.

Until the puzzle is released, you can use the sample e2pieces.txt and e2hints.txt files as described on the http://eternity2.net/definition.php page. These describe a puzzle which I know is solveable in about 10 minutes.

You only need to create the files once, then place them into your BOINC directory.

Regards and good luck,
Dave Clark

The only files so far are those sample files on the webpage. The puzzle isn't out yet so no one can generate one.

See here --> http://eternity2.net/definition.php

There's just one annoyance regarding crunching with the sample files... you get your email inbox flooded with messages saying that you solved the EternityII puzzle! :icon_neutral:

The sample file is too easy to solve I guess...

Is it me or does this project seem pointless?

Until the actual puzzle is launched (in less than two weeks I think) the project is just a test platform, running test workunits.

But once we get our hands on the real pieces files, we'll start really digging into it :)

Vaughan, the other day I saw that you joined the project and passed team foundership to you.
I forgot to ask you, could you put the banner on the team?
I don't have the html code snippet for it anymore.

I detached from this project. I'll wait until they supply the appropriate files so BOINC can download them. Cannot be bothered wasting time reinventing the wheel. :icon_twisted:
