Hey Stuart, (ototero), I see you are challenging my P233mmx 32MB RAM Win95b dinosaur for slowest Ubero cruncher of the day. I thought I owned this prestigious position

The challenge is open to everyone:
 You must run Ubero for the full 24 hours on the slowest computer you have.

 It must be the only DC project running on that computer

 You must post the specification for your "klein-cruncher" (I just made that word up)

Good luck,
Vaughan

I wanna play but my gateway is offline. We need to have another competition in about a week. I will have my wireless network up and running....
****Beerknurd closes his eyes, crosses his fingers and prays really hard that this configuration will work this time....

But if this competition get's too much fun i'll have to break out the 100 mhz Packard Bell. I swear that thing is from the 60's. But it still works. It takes at least 10 seconds to pull up a medium sized word document. I bet in text mode that thing would run about 7 per day.

I'll let yall know when i'm online. Then we can play again...

Until then......

Jason

Question..... when I get back to PA... can I enter my 486 in the contest??

It's in storage and was made a file server under NT 3.51.... I could load it up with win2k (a nice heavy load) and then virus scanner, etc....

Is that a valid entry in the contest?

BC - yes, try it. The challenge is for the lowest spec computer possible to run Ubero for 24 hours. Pesronally, I found text mode ran but with GUI mode it crashed in under 24 hours.

Beerknurd - I'd love to see the Packard Bell try to compete. I might have to dust off the old 286

keep it up and I will find the 8086/8087 'number cruncher' at 9.54 mhz... LOL

I only have here a 25Mhz processor. Nothing else.

My 'number cruncher' is an eisa plug in card that connects into the 8088 slot via a cable..... how's that for OLD.... that's 1984(?) vintage????

LOL

At the time it was fast as hell.... especially since I was running Fortran and the Lahey F77 compiler on my 20MB hd :)

Oh, those were the days.... :)

I will find a way.... it may take 20-30 minutes to boot, but it will :)

We'll certainly find out when I get home and get into the storage bin... I know right were those things are :)

Right guys,

The machine crunching Ubero at the moment is at work. It's a 366 Intel *spit*
with 32 or 64 meg ram. It just sits there all day doing about 25-30 per day.

Now get this, I have an 8088 A5 size laptop that still runs! It doesn't have any network capabilities so I can't enter and WIN with that

This is really great, see who has the worst DCer on the net. :D :D

Stu... there is software to offer point-to-point lap-link style.... and ms networking will do it if you can get win 95 to run..... or you can use the old network server LAN MANager protocol and get a DOS level networking... You could 'dial in' to your other machine's serial port.... and go from there. :)

I just noticed my Packard Bell doesn't even have a modem. We have only been using it for a word processor... That's about all it can handle. It takes like 10 seconds to bring up a word document. I don't know if the wife would approve buying an external modem to run that piece of @#$%. I guess i'm out of the race right now. I'll have my gateway online in a few days. But I think that will run at least 200 a day. Oh well....

Stu,

I'm still watching your stats........ http://www.gifs.net/animate/eyesbloodshot.gif
