Hi everybody, my name is Karlsson and I'm a member of Noticias3D.com boinc team (a Spanish team) and I would like to ask your team/community for some help. We are trying to get accounts into some projects, basically new test phase projects, that need invitation, or registration code that we are not able to get. This projects are Hydrogen@home, Yoyo@home, Docking@home and Cosmology@home. We have tried to get in touch with the projects administrators, post in forums or send an private messages with no success cause we are asked for a code. Could somebody explain to me how do we need to proceed? Thanks for your time,

Karlsson - Noticias3D.com boinc team

Hiya Karlsson and welcome to the forums. :)

I personally don't have any codes for projects, and rarely used any. One secret to getting in new projects is to find them real early. They usually have account creation open, but when many people flock in they close or put invitation code active. So if you find them early you got a very good chance of getting in. You wouldn't believe the number of new projects I have found already over the years only by doing searches on Google every few weeks.

But aside from luck at finding them, there are also those that get in contact with the project administrators and offer their beta testing services. Project admins usually need most of Linux and MacOS crunchers/testers, as those are hard to find these days, so probably anyone running one of those platforms that offers to beta test can get in.

That's two ways to get in that I know of... use them wisely! :icon_wink:

Also it helps when you write to the Project Admins if you are a moderator or site admin of your team. They tend to ignore an e-mail that says "Hi I'm a member of blah_blah_team ...".

Another thing is if you can say how many GHz or PCs you can put on their project. Some admins want to test a certain architecture, operating system or like NeoGen said, Macs, Linux etc.

Thank you guys for your responses, but it seems a bit more complicated than that in some cases, for example, yoyo@home has just started a couple of days ago, and its already closed for new accounts, in other ones for example Docking, says you can ask for the registration code using the boinc mass email mechanism which we dont have a clue what it is.

About being a moderator or site admin, Noticias3D.com is a webpage about computers, hardware and software, and the admins and moderators are not necessarily in the team, cuz its not a forum just for the team, as a matter of fact we only have one N3D page moderator in the team, and Im the user with the most credits.

Don't know what that boinc mass email thing is either, but on the other hand that thread is almost a year old so it might not correspond to their present situation anymore.

About the ones that are already closed, I'm afraid there might be no way to get in anymore unless you have some linux or mac systems. They usually open account creation in the beggining, and then close it when they reach a certain number of people and do their beta testings with those people for several months.
It's like I said earlier... you have to try and find them early.

By the way Karlsson, tell us something more about your team. I got curious the other day, made a quick look around for "noticias3d", and came up to a webpage but didn't find any forums or distributed computing section. How many guys are you? What is your approximate computing power alltogether? :)

Docking's closed down until they move to a new university.

yoyo is a part-time project being developed by team Rechenkraft. I joined their forum (which was tricky as I don't speak/read German) and posted a question. yoyo replied there will be no more test units.

Cosmology - send an e-mail to Scott or Private Message on their forum.

As yout have seen the main page its http://www.noticias3d.com/
there on the left you can see som black sqaures, one of them says FOROS (forums) wich will take you here http://foro.noticias3d.com/vbulletin
There there a section called Comunidad N3D (N3D community) http://foro.noticias3d.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=54

where you can find a couple of threads about distributed computing.

The history of the team started long ago with the grid.org project, where people computed searching for a solution to cancer in this thread
http://foro.noticias3d.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=16

Tired of seeing people asking what was this about, I made a new thread, this one,
http://foro.noticias3d.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=192297
explaining was distributed computed, boinc, and explaining every single project. This became like the new era of the team, several people signed up and since then we have been growing quickly. Right now in summer its basically stopped, well see how it goes after the summer. Right now we are like a 100 people, but like most of the teams, the credits is basically made by 20 users. Anyway we have big hopes for our team, this is a freaks computer forum so people do have powerful computers. Right now we are #757 in boinc combined, but with our RAC we keep going higher every day. You can check our statistics here

We still are a small team, nothing compared to you guys ;) but we have the goal to became bigger with time.
