I concur, unless denmark continues to fall like it has been.... have you noticed that????

they fall, we beat them and all slide up.... we hit #12 in 1.5 (2) days.

All depends on whether Biohazard is surging or steady.

If you have enough to push us over the 6000 mark... i think we can sustain 11th then.... we would definately be within striking range of a 2 slot jump..... so do you have about 800?

Go for it is my vote.... but it's your ( and somewhat a team ) decision.

Tactically and strategically this could be the day.... Chaz is probably ready to hit a good load... as are others.......

Comments from all???? Anyone else out there with a 'load' to shoot up?

(NO PUN INTENDED...... and Jeff, get your mind out of the gutter!!! ROFL)

Nosmoke is the user on denmark that posted 802.... if you can counter that.... then Biohazard is the only thing between us and 11th place.

I am posting 230-240 per day.... and likely to increase a bit now the heavy jobs seem to have subsided for a moment.

The wu's are in folder D2OL\res. It's a file called resultQueue.dat but I usually copy the entire res folder.

Carlos.... If you set your download limit to 500 or 800.... something smaller, wouldn't it be easier to manage given the fuss you must endure?

Also... is serial -IP an option for you (aka lap-link) ?? you dohave win98, right??? It woudl be a 'direct comptuer connect' kinda thing... been a while, but i know it's in there somewhere

Chuck,

I'm just trying to show you portuguese reality.

Do you know how much I pay to have internet bandwith limits!?!?!?!? 50 USD per month.

If I get basic service here... it costs about the same... based on provider. when I go to full T1, it costs $150/month.... and you can imagine what we pay for our T3.

that part is about equal.... my subscribed services (web page, etc) all are extra... 4gb = 70/month. 12 gb usenet = $14... etc etc... some things here are still premium 'novelties' and cost is high... I think cable TV and cable internet is the only thing driving down DSL prices and removing limits finally.

I understand your situation fullly.... PA is not a well wired as Ca.... California is cheap for internet .... Pa costs nearly 2x as much for less.

Cable in Pa... (Prolog) is still 1500/128, but moving to 3000/256 in metro areas (like I had in D/FW 3 years ago).

DSL is the most reliable for us in Pa because a) 1/2 mile from the telco switch central office .... b) Prolog cable goes out, even though only 5 miles away, all the time and is the only provider c) the cable modems we must use (cannot purchase own) SUCK... the bandwidth is limited to 768kb/128kb or 1500/128 .... no choice... all based on line quality / signal strength at your house...... SUPER SHITTY... (they have more repeaters and re-amplifiers than anything i have ever seen before in my life.

Back to the DSL...., the 'stock issue' DSL modems contain firewall, VPN, and other MANY other features (like DMZ, default host to route to, etc) that saves money.... the DSL modem is provided by the telco, and runs at 100/full at the ethernet port and always gets above the advertized speed...... very very sweet and easy to run.... just a step or two above this netgear that I have now.... (which I WISH was 100/full at the WAN port, but is not, but still gets 400-500 kb/sec)

We may opt for something else when I get home.... we shall see.... there is router / vpn / firewall like the netgear that i wanted to get that is really fast and sophisticated, but could not justify $289 for it.

suggestion..... go to http://www.dslreports.com and use both the speed tests and tweak tests........ "Dr TCP" will tune your TCP/IP settings for windows to fit your cable as reported by their tests..... You must have SUN java (not MS) to run the test (Fed Court order now in effect).... and your perf will increase a LOT... Most PC's use the default of TCP Receive WIn of 5740... I am at 74,000-something, with selective ack... you will see.... it will recommend AND explain each paarameter really nice.

Why did you pick PPPOE DSL instead of cable (or do you have DSL?)

If using cable.... pick proper speeds and put in the 3000/512 you should have for service values...... If DSL... whatever you have... thought
you had cable though.

Using Dr TCP, either way....

1. Find your ethernet adapter and set the MTU (bottom right corner)
.... set MTU = 1500

2. You might try cutting back a bit on the RWIN value a little.... not much
.... try 46080 or 47520

3. don't forget to hit save before exit and make sure you select the proper adapter.

I don't understand the discontinuity.... I think you should re-run using cable parameters 3000/512... or whatever you have...something is iff.

I used to not like D2OL. But i like it cause you can run it offline. My P3 sucks ass at it. But that's why it's offline. I downloaded 2000 WU's. I just have it running. I will upload them when I accumulate enough. If my calculations are correct it will take almost 80 days to process 2000 WU's on my P3.

That sucks!!!!!!!

If you have a loose D2OL node, pull it in....

There is a new batch of data in the libs... new libs to boot.....

it's still single threaded.... and V2.5 will be an update -OR-
V3.0 will be BOINC based.... (that's the word I get, but not 100% guaranteed.... negotiations still in progress)...

Hope that helps... I'm sure others can provide more input.

My setting suggested are for either cabled or DSL... they are based on your processor.

Based on what you have and given what you input... your DSL speeds are not shown and I cannot reverse calculate the ATM to TCP delays and packet sizes properly without that.

at 3000... you should be getting a LOT better throughput.

I'm not understanding this, having a huge ul/dl capacity cannot help in DC projects. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The amount of data we're shoving about is tiny. It's only when we are downloading films (hyperthetically of course) that bigger is better.

Having huge dl/ul capacity helps in DC Projects. My example: I can't use forever lifemapper because each 200wu's is equal to 90MB and I have an international bandwith limit of 4GB/month. Right now I'm on holiday but when I'm studying I download lifemapper wu's from university.

On topic,

At current rates, we will take 11th position in 6 days.

And 10th in further 22 days

Here: Let's go further off topic:

1: I can't upload to D2OL

2. at 10mbps/half duplex, I get the following speed (DSL)

2004-08-07 19:30:00 EST: 3212 / 479
Your download speed : 3289118 bps, or 3212 kbps.
A 401.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 491127 bps, or 479 kbps.

At 100/full I go above 5megabits

3. Someone want to post that graphics of Stu's on a 'particular' site???

Mine didn't upload either - Must be down. Ahh and thats why we keep the big cache of canidates. hehe.

BTW Chaz, I gave up on looking for u on BFV, BF1942, or DC. lol.

Every result helps!! You never know which one might be the one we all have been looking for to find a cure for something. I've taken a few of mine offline on purpose for a day or two just to have a bigger dump!!

How do you think we can get to 10th in 22 days? Right now we are putting out close to 30,000/week and #10 is putting out around 10,000/week, that means we are gaining 20,000/week and we are 130,000 behind them or 6.5 weeks away (45 days at least).

Either way we are tearing it up, just hope team can focus that long on mainly one project. lol.

With predictor having not yet passed my personal Q/A ..... there is no reason to run anything but our (apparant) two priorities..... which (correct if wrong) are CB and D2OL....

We will deal with Predictor once it has met my criteria.... AND... the rest of the database gets reset / repaired..... as of now it is not yet repaired... and the staff has announced they are away this weekend.

So, I am pouring it on to D2OL... (found online works better for me right now instead of offline mode. I presume the batch I am working with needs special / additional info???... is this common??? )

sorry... 1/2 asleep and just up to take meds.

Chuck

PS: I lost a test node... but got about 100 out of it before i had to reload... please ignore the # of nodes in my profile.

*EDIT*: Did 140+ since midnight local... should help w/ the partial loss

Do team stats move with a user when they switch teams on this project? I am not currently active in D2OL but I have a few units to my name I can bring over if they do follow?

Equinox. I was wondering if you colud help us.

What it is that i have just looked at your old team Team AMD on D2OL and what it is, is that your old team is lossing postions anyway and there is only one person Praetonia crunching on the team now. Would it be possible to ask him/her if they would like to come and crunch with AMD Users instead. Because that would give us 12th

Ototero

Jeff,

I took the daily stats yesterday for the top 15 teams. Then ran an Excel model forward in time.

Of course, daily rates might change, but it gave me something to post about.

Stuart

Ototero

Nick,

When you looked at Team AMD, as you said, there is nobody crunching except Praetorian.

Just to make it clear, the person called StuPot in that team in 3rd is not me.

I don't want anyone to think I was moonlighting :D

D2ol is acting really weird... as if someone were doing a denial-of-service attack on it...

it can reach out and grab data, but not accept manual updates...

It is faithfully handing out more work now at least.....

and I have another 80 done since last post. :)

To quote stu and others: "Gonna be a big dump"

Stats on D2OL page are fine. We should hit #12 tomorrow and Ninja pulled to within 7,000 of us (down from 10,000), but we are outscoring them today.

AMDave

A bit of feedback from a daily stats checker (due to my modem useage)

Since I started D2OL, I have noticed that sometimes on the TA_GeoffS stats site that the stats will show the entire Team as being disbanded, sometimes it even says that we are not and displays the columns but not the members in the Team Stats table.....they appear to have data transfer (ETL) issues via the XML transfer which in trun corrupts their "team rules" in the web interface.

Although it is one of the more informative sites, I have not logged this as a problem as I have recently had some other activities in focus.

My feedback is...don't worry about it. It is NOT always a complete representation of the D2OL data. It is an impressive effort, but there (as expected) are no absolute guarantees on the site (and nor should there be - Take it from me ... I am an MIS Reporting Application administrator...I can back up the issues involved).

EDIT --off topic <SNIPPED> ... I was depressed due to the passing of a close friend. I will try to remember not to POST when I'm in that frame of mind. Sorry guys.

yep its gd but looking at the stats in the oast week ninjas have processed more candidates.
ill put my comp soley back on d2ol soon.
** just wondering atm i have 1 node. if i dl d2ol to another comp and install it i would then have 2 nodes, both scoring points to the same account.

you could then have 2 nodes on one computer, would this process faster or does it make no difference ??

Ototero
08-16-2004, 11:06 AM
Sorry Oli,

I can't answer that. Maybe give it a try for 2 or 3 days and keep checking your stats. Your bigger machine might cope.

Empty_5oul
08-16-2004, 12:12 PM
k np, on the stats page i c that some people had many nodes and was thinking thats a lot of comps or it is possible to run it more than once - i dunno if that would work tho as 100%processor is already gone

another off topic thing :
what is the AMD equivilent of an Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz Processor.
I'm gonna build a "Media PC" but i want an AMD :thumbleft: - from looking at benchmark scores the Athlon XP 3000+ or 3200+ seems to be equal.

vaughan
08-17-2004, 01:47 AM
In both D2OL & TSC if you reformat your HDD, d/l the application again and start again you get a new node assigned. There is a way to copy your node and this is explained somewhere in the D2OL forums. There is no way to merge nodes created on one computer so over time you accumulate lots of nodes.
Don't know the correct answer to your 2nd question but I'd look at what a P4 3.06 GHz costs and look up the equivalent AMD in dollars. Then you know you'll have a more powerful computer as AMD gives more bang per buck.

jlangner
08-17-2004, 02:14 AM
Yes Xp3000 will be close to a P4-3.0.
