Great job! You are really putting up some #s! Looks like I may have to put more pcs on SOB if you keep up the pace. lol.

Is SOB still an in progress project or has it been solved already?

I just love their stats, they are always up and they are updated almost immediately. Wish other projects could do the same.

I am not sure. I run it to pass Vaughn (#2) and eventually knock Chaz off of the #1 spot. hehe.

Still active... :) They have only solved 6 of the 17, so there are still eleven left to go.

Is the secret game plan to sneak into Comp USA and install it on all their machines? LOL

DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!! Who told you.... Or I could go to school and use all the lab PC's!!!!! That's about 50 2.8 ghtz computers all kicking ass for me!!!!!! But I would get kicked out of school... So I doubt that will happen.....

Same thoughts crossed my mind when I visited my son's school yesterday. The music room has wall to wall Macs with keyboards and headphones hanging off each. Wow, drooool, wasted cpu cycles ... then the teacher came over to us and I snapped back to reality. Blasted security is stronger than Fort Knox.
Damn, need to find another secret weapon quickly before Jeff gets too far ahead in SOB.

yest i forgot to close BOINC so predictor and 17 were running 50% each. Today i have dropped predictor as server was down overenight so i have a queue of results (and 700 pending credit.) Now im only running 17 so hopefully my speed/ power should increase a little on yesterdays effort.

Also i have my other comp here now, its still in bits but im working on putting it together, wont be as fast but an AMD 2000+ will only improve my stats lol :P.

In 17 can u use multiple machines just be installing whereever and putting my name in as Empty5oul again ??

Yep is the short answer to that. I'm running it on 2.

k, kool.
i might try it on some other machines then, i think it said it supports 95 so my old machines might be able to help.

** k, its running on this now :D which is great as this is on practically 24/7 - only downside is its a pentium BUT its a pentium III at 99.7MHz so not too bad.

17 is the only project i have got to work on this so far, i have tried BOINC (Seti and Predictor) D2ol, Lifemapper but none will work on ths - btw it is win95.
if anyone else has a project they are running on Win95 or know it def works, tell me and i can try other projects.

Yep I have on 2 now but at peak I have about 13 to put on it. Still short of Vaugn and Chaz though. lol.

jlanger:
whats ur total power then with all 13 or however many machines it was ??

i was looking at ur stats, how did u get that 6meg+ bump ? - its only my second day of using 17, i c ive got some catching up to do to get up with u guys lol :P

jlangner
08-13-2004, 06:42 PM
Right at 2.0 but I have no idea how the 6 happened unless they all dumped at same time. The only thing I noticed was I had fives work units completed that day.

Empty_5oul

k, i was thinking 6 seemed pretty large lol. how long does it normally take you (anyone) to process a block and are there always 1000+ blocks in a "test"

Ototero ur now my next target in SOB, its a 50G difference tho so it'll be a while and you have already said u have other machines on D2ol etc and could surge ahead when i get close lol.
I have built my other machine now but didnt have anymore DDR ram so i had to use SDRam instead but atleast theres 512 in there.

Does any1 know what the performance difference is like between 512 DDR 333 and 512 SD.

vaughan

Not much diff between 333 & 400 even. CPU GHz wins.

Did someone post about running SOB solely in memory? Isn't this just a RAM drive? Wouldn't it be very precarious running in volatile memory for a week or however long it takes to crunch a complete task? Do you have a method for processing just in memory but writing the intermediate 'save' files to HDD?

Empty_5oul
08-14-2004, 09:17 AM
it sounds like a ram drive. you would definatley need a way of writing certain bits to HD as otherwise after 6days processing u could re-boot and lose it all. i wouldnt imagine this would be that much faster overall though as drives now are pretty fast - and new ones will be 15,000 rpm

12th is pretty tight atm. We need to pull clear enough from the Ninjas to put them off.

Then we can fight elsewhere

k, ill move over after lunch (not on my comp atm).

im having trouble with my comps stability atm (neva tried Ocing yet either). I seem to have aquired a new virus every time i run AVG, so ill spend some time this afternoon doing that.
Btw does anyone have a norton antivirus 2004 activation or keygen i could use/borrow

thx
