just looked at the SOB AMD users stats page and recently our team output peaked at 90M. what the hell happened their, was it just a "communial dump" as it were or did the server go mad for a sec ???

I have no idea what any of you are talking about... maybe I should run it for a while so that I can become familiar with the SOB lingo.....

Beerknurd

BY the way I have all my power on SOB, unless there's something else I should be running... Let me know...

This is a newbie question sorry... But i'm not familiar with SOB. Do you have to do anything with it? The first posts were talking about dumps... Do I have to manually upload my blocks or does it do it by it's self?????

jlangner
08-18-2004, 01:06 AM
I am not sure how to do manual dump, other than if the pc on not connected to internet? If you want it to transmit more often, go to config and tell to transmit intermittant results.

jlangner

Here is some good info on it.

Beerknurd

So with that info it seems like a P4 should do pretty good.....

I t takes me 10 minutes or so to do 1 block. I have 2 nodes running so if I only ran 1 it would be faster... Does anyone know if that's good or not????

vaughan
08-18-2004, 05:19 AM
That is how I see it. When running 2 nodes on your P4 how is the CPU usage shared? Is it 50:50 between the two SOBs? I run Igor Arsensin's TaskInfo2002 program and it shows lots of info about CPU usage.

To hoard SOB data so you can dump just click on the Config tab and untick the Transmit intermediate blocks setting, then click Save. When you are ready (and on-line of coarse) click Config - Tick transmit int blocks - Save. When it completes that particular fragment of the whole prime search it will send where its up to to the stats server and your workload stats will be updated.

You can adjust the priority of the application too by adjusting the Priority radio buttons from Idle to Low or Normal. I find Idle best otherwise it interferes too much with Age of Empires.

my blk process times have been all over the place. i started timing some on my watch and some are 7mins, some 15mins and so take at least 25mins. why does it change so much a few times i have been running adaware, AVG, norton or something so i could understad it. but even being idle it seems to jump around alot - i know as the numbers get bigger it takes slightly longer but surely not 30mins on an AMD 3200+ XP

I would look in the task manager and see if another program is interfering with it, you should have near 100% cpu usage on sb.exe, if not check and see what else is using cycles.

If youre using HT, 2 will be faster..
P4E3.0
2 instances 955,000 Cems/sec.
1 instance 784,000 Cems/sec.
Check ur CPU usage in Taskmanager, notice when you run only 1 , CPU usage is only 50%

Yes, that is good. I dont think an A64 will touch it either.

If I have 2 instances running on 1 PC should be running 1 test or should I download another instance in a diffrent directory that way I have 2 tests running on 1 PC. :?:

chaz
08-19-2004, 11:23 AM
2 seperate instances 2 tests is how I do it, I dont know if its a good idea to run 2 clients and crunch the same test twice, they may not credit both.

Beerknurd
08-19-2004, 11:40 AM
I thought my numbers seemed low.... I will try 2 tests and see if that makes a diffrence.

I already see a major diffrence ......

Have you had the guts to crack the case on that Dell and see what kind of goodies are inside? Or worried about the warranty? Do you know what processor you have in that thing? I'm curious about your temperatures since mine runs so hot.

are you now running two clinets on the same name so the same "k" or "n" number ??
does this work on AMD XP's as i tried running it twice but only the 1 i ran first got the CPU usage the other just stayed on 0.00%

Yes the K and N #'s are the same.... It may be cause my intel has Hyperthreading Technology.... It runs like I have 2 processors... I have one dedicated to processor 1 and one dedicated to processor 2. Even thogh I have 1 processor. Make sense???

If you run it as a service you can set up to run 2 instances on the same processor and get 2 different sets of values for K & N.

Should be the total rate for all your clients cEMs/sec.

500K just seems kinda small..... I'm running 3 instances. 2 on this PC and 1 on another....

You should be doing well over 500k cems/sec. your clients show what your actually doing.
These stats (http://marcc.no-ip.org/SoB/Team.php?Team_ID=83) are much more informative

To hoard SOB data so you can dump just click on the Config tab and untick the Transmit intermediate blocks setting, then click Save.

vaughan,

does that mean that I could effectively cache SOB units?
I was dissappointed when I read that SOB recommended a broadband always-on connection. So I had left it alone. But if I can download and upload in dumps then I might be able to help...

No can do with EON by the look of things. Sad though, since I converted my PIII-800 to linux. I still have not got it talking via my AMD-Win2k shared modem connection because I still can't get it to talk to the Win2k machines. I had this working 6 months ago when I was just mucking around with it and now when I want it ...grrr. I will get there when I have the time to do a full re-install (the CD drive is 1X hahaha silly me)

it does definatley work Dave.

i tried it today tho i have bb. i unplugged my comp form the network this morning so i couldnt access the net, then just now i plugged network back in and all the completed queued results were sent - u can check ur log file, u may have to set it up under config first tho.
its then under C: /program files/SB in this you can see when you contact the server and how many test you need to do to complete the overall test (full test)

No matter how I set it up, the clients that I run on my Dell 3.4 Ghz always runs 1 test. I don't get it. They are running at these rates....

515012.5 cEM's/sec

514965.1 cEM's/sec

169529.8 cEM's/sec

I should be running better than 500k.

I have no idea how to get them to run diffrent tasks. I even downloaded them in diffrent directories.... HELP!!!!!!!!!

chaz
08-21-2004, 02:47 PM
You are running faster, your just not getting credit for it.
I'd try deleting/uninstalling 2 of them and reinstall, also recheck to make sure you have the correct account info on all, must be something simple.

Here's how i keep mine in order:

C:\DC Projects\SB1
C:\DC Projects\SB2
C:\DC Projects\SB3

According to those numbers your doing about 1.2M cems/sec

Beerknurd
08-21-2004, 03:42 PM
You run 3 clients on your machines?????

chaz
08-21-2004, 03:45 PM
Only with dual cpu's yes.
Here's another trick, if they still want to crunch the same work unit, do this; goto the config on 1 client, and change ur username, click save, it will clear the cache and recommend getting another work unit. Just switch your username back to the orig and crunch away. Dont forget to save again after changing ur username back to the right one :)

My 2 clients were running with the same K and N numbers... I got them to run diffrent #'s but i'm still only at 800 K........ This is starting to piss me off....

I normally glance at the SOB website graphs...... The graph updates the cEM's/sec all during the day.....

Beerknurd
08-21-2004, 04:22 PM

AMDave

Beer. I wouldn't either if I were me (and I am).

I've pushed my Duron 1.3Ghz to 246K cEMs/sec. After that the temp alarm goes off and I know I'll be in trouble if I don't drag it back down.

Unable to get SOB to work on the other machine over the shared modem connection & SOB says no proxy program available (even though there is a "results through proxy" total in the Overall Project Stats by Country...

Oh...and there's another thing....bit of a pain actually...no test recovery or statussaving...if I shutdown & reboot the machine then SOB drops the test which makes me dial up again and requests a new test. Lesson learned. Now up to 13.6% done after 48hrs 35mins....fingers crossed I don't get an accidental reboot inside of a week.

Off Topic...having fun with my Linux connection...now the Linux box can ping all the other machines no problems at all, but none of them can ping the Linux box (yay for Linux).
EDIT - that's not sarcasm by the way...windoze should be able to make the ping but it doesn't.
IPChains and Firewall have the right settings on the linux box and all HOST file entries are OK....slightly mystified ... waiting for my SOB test to finish before I can bounce the whole network.
