vid card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121057
(the vid card is for crunching, this one is compatible, right?)
ram:

(2 of these)

and a phenom 9500 as soon at newegg gets them in (unless i get impatient and order from tigerdirect or something)

also, i have everything else already that i would need to complete the system like an optical drive, harddrive(s), floppy ( i guess ), psu and case.

so what do you think?

If you make those purchases through the banner on our affiliates page, Jeff (our admin) gets a small royalty to help pay for the site hosting and bandwidth. :icon_wink:

That is a pretty dang awesome motherboard!
I am wondering if you were to use an Athlon64 x2, would the memory still be compatible?

We'll have to check with Jeff, and see how/if the money comes.

I use the link to get to Newegg, then log into my account. I hope that gets us money.

I don't see a link for newegg, most of them aren't showing up with firefox.. and IE has too many security holes.

The GFX I think is possibly Ok for Folding@home GPU crunching but here's what they say about it...

Which cards are supported?

We now support serveral classes of GPU boards, including X1600, X1800, and X1900 class GPU's from ATI. At the launch, we supported X1900 cards only. X1800 cards do not provide the performance seen in X1900's and so we strongly recommend X1900 class cards (although we now officially support X1800). X1900 and X1800 cards are actually quite different -- they have different processors (R520, R530 vs. the R580 [in the X1900 series]). The R580 makes a huge difference in performance -- its 48 pixel shaders are key, as we use pixel shaders for our computations. Also note that the card should have more than 256MB (i.e. at least 512MB) of RAM, otherwise the GPU client will put a huge load on the client machine (although we do note that the 256MB X1950Pro using PCIe does work reasonably well).

I've used the X1600 pro 512 meg for folding and it does a wu in about 1.5 days. Not bad really, and it games pretty good too. It's in my son's computer now and he runs it with his on line game Camelot something and it runs very smooth. A good choice for the money !! :)

I'm building a system with that motherboard and a black edition 5000+ with 4gb of ram for the FIL. It should arrive early next weak. I'm hoping to see some good overclocking from the cpu.

I get that page... just most of the banners on it don't show in firefox. so I just opened with IE and copied the newegg link to my shortcut, so now ever time I go there it will credit the site.:icon_mrgreen:

bah! as soon they get the cpu i want, the mobo goes out of stock. worse yet, i can't find any other place that has the exact same one in stock. im sick of waiting. spiders launch has been less than fluid.

so not only did the item go out of stock, it has now been deactivated so they aren't selling it anymore...... which makes sense. they get the cpu for the board then stop selling the board.....

but anyway, come hell, high water, or russell crowe, i will have that mobo.

yeah, the MSI k9a2 platinum. the gigabyte one has all the pcie slots right next to each other so you cant do more than two cards. the msi one has them spaced out so you can fit 4x 2 (rear)slot in it. and its cheaper than the gigabyte one. and more stable. and its 790fx, not 790x. its just all around better.

and i might have found a place that is selling it for 172, 7 $ cheaper than newegg before they pulled it.

Thanks for using the affiliate site. We usually get about 1% of the sale, but it adds up.
