Yes, I know only to well, but it is a concession I have to make to the little woman if I want a PC in the living room so I can monitor the rest of the Farm while watching TV with her ... :icon_rolleyes:

Oh yeah.... those "little woman" things have some very steep costs!!! :icon_rolleyes:
But, I'm learning to live with the vista powered quad. After all, it beats the hell out of *no* quad at all. :icon_mrgreen:
Anyway, congrats on the lappy!!! :)

Eek!! Vista... I would slap XP on that soooo fast... Are there any benefits to running Vista over XP with a quad core??

ya......... it's the wife's machine that I get to use the other 3 cores on. But I don't get to change it around... the way it come from the store is the way it stays, or my name is mud and no more computer. So it runs 3 instances of d2ol just marvy. Much better score than if I wasn't running the 3 cores at all. :icon_mrgreen:

None at all from what I've read, in fact a whole lot of people are tanking the Vista OS that their PC's come with and installing XP, even some of the reviewers are doing the same thing.
I was fortunate enough to be able to have XP 64-Bit installed right from the Factory on the Laptop instead of Vista so I won't have to go through the hassle of getting rid of it as soon as I get it ... :)

You have to get the feeling that Vista is the "New Coke" of Microsoft when the factories begin giving the option of having XP installed.

I don't think any of the Custom Builders ever stopped giving the Option to install XP over Vista, if you buy 1 over the Counter your probably going to get Vista though as all the Major (HP - Dell etc) Builders install it automatically ... :icon_rolleyes: ... As much as Billy Bob would like to shove Vista down every ones throat it just ain't happening so far. A lot of people are refusing to have anything to do with it and Billy Bob needs to go back to the Drawing Board & come up with a better OS than Vista is.
The trouble with Microsoft is that they seem to think bigger is better so they keep bloating these OS's up to where every time 1 comes out you have to (or probably should) get a faster system to keep up with all the bloat.
As far as I'm concerned they will have to pry my copies of XP Pro from my Cold Dead Hands ... :icon_lol: ... before I give into running Vista, it has nothing that I'm even remotely interested in ... :icon_mad:

You have the cold dead hands part right. Since 3.11 XP, for all it's faults, is by far the most stable platform that I have used. The part of rebooting 2 or 3 times a day somehow just isn't missed. I think Vista is just pushing to far toward the Apple shell to suit me.
I do know that Vista Ultimate is a memory HOG. You better have 2 gigs of memory to run good.

Yeah, I could have got the WUXGA (1920x1200) Screen but opted not to, my old Laptop has the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) Screen & I've been happy with that so I stayed with it, plus the 1920X1200 was a $200 Option ... :icon_rolleyes:

Isn't the vista vs XP getting close to being a moot point here shortly? December is just about here, which signals the end of the sales line for XP. Rightly or wrongly, short of the majority of the fortune 500 companies telling MS to shove vista, xp is sliding into the future past. ??????????????????? Anyone heard anything to the contrary???
I believe MS has extended sales of XP until June 30, 2008

Your right LeBo, it has been extended to June 30 of 2008 & System builders will be able to continue offering Windows XP through June 2009 ... :icon_rolleyes: ... But that could be extended even further if the OEM System builders have their way.
"Ambitious" is a pretty accurate description, especially when you consider how hard OEMs have pushed Microsoft over the issue even before Vista's launch. We've heard from OEMs that they have not been anxious to stop selling XP at a date predetermined by Microsoft, and they've told the software giant as much. Instead, they would like to see market demand drive decisions on when to stop selling Windows XP. If Microsoft is feeling pressure to make up for lost time from Vista's long development process by putting an end to sales of Windows XP, the OEMs want no part of it.

I probably won't see it for at least 2 weeks minimum & more than likely closer to to 3 weeks. they won't even start to Process the Order until they receive the Cashiers Check I sent them for the full amount (Did that to save $100).
Then they say about a 10 Day Time Period for the Laptop to be built & Shipped. I ordered the 1 I have now from them too but can't remember if it actually took that long or not.
Basically I'm going to be a Guinea Pig with this Laptop, I have no Idea if it will be able to run all 4 Cores 24\7 or not, the Company couldn't give me any feedback on any heat issues because the Quad Core Option is so new. I may have to restrict it to running only 2 or possibly 3 cores to keep the heat down.
It's a GO Stepping Q6700 & does have more cooling Fan's than the 1 I have now so maybe it will be ok, that plus the fact I doubt if I'll be able to Overclock it, there's usually no Option for that in the BIOS's of a Laptop, so it'll be running at the Stock Speed ... :icon_neutral:

I use a fan plate similar to those to keep my lappy cool (under 60C) when it's crunching D2OL.

I've seen them things before but never have bothered with 1 of them for my current Laptop. Under full load it usually only runs @ about 50c even in the hottest weather, and I never actually have it on my lap so I'm not worried about it burning me or anything.
I keep a Sink Rack or I guess you could call it a Counter Top Rack underneath it for Air Flow & that seems to work in helping keep it running cooler. But with the Q6700 in it I don't know, I may have to try 1 one them and see if it cools it down some or not ... :icon_neutral:
