I read about this one being tested somewhere, cant recall what site. Should be a nice overclocker.

Does anyone know if the problems with the Phenoms are that bad?

The forum was XtremeSystems. And so the story goes, unless you are playing around with virtualization, the comments I've read are to the tune that it shouldn't impact you. For the people that have been playing with crunching, no impact. I think there were comments to that effect on the XtremeSystems forum under the AMD section dealing with Phenoms.

The delayed Phenom 9700 is affected by the TLB bug, though AMD insiders tell DailyTech the upcoming 2.6 GHz Phenom 9900 is not affected (http://www.dailytech.com/AMD+Phenom+2008+Roadmap/article9914.htm). This indicates Phenom 9900 will carry the B3-stepping designation

It might be worth the wait till the 2.6 comes out.

I think I will now. There's not alot good to be said out there about this cpu right now.

Well after I posted the remarks I found on the web, I can see that I should have researched the effort further. But it does bring up great discussion efforts any way. I too believe I will wait till something happens with the higher Gig Hz range processors. They would be more attune to greater output then buying one of these lower end models. Speed and efficiency improve with age, so lets just be patient till the ones with out the BUG are introduced and of course with the greater speed as well.

Thank You everyone for posting, good insight !

well i got an amd phenom 9600 as soon as they where available in Australia (i believe i was the first person to get one in australia) besides mobo and psu dieing i am happy with it going by boinc bench marks it is stronger in integer then k8's but a little weaker in fpu clock for clock having said that 9600 seems to preform about the same as amd 64 x2 5200 or better and appears to preform somewhere inbetween intels q6600 and xeon 5350

from what i have heard b3 stepping should resolve tlb bug which will have new model numbers ie phenom 9550, 9650

Thanks for the insight there Danish Dynamite.. Nice to have insight in to how these critters/cpu's work. Have you had any lock ups running any projects, specifically BOINC projects? and have you OC'd the cpu at all?
Thanks for the update! :blob3:

If the chips work in regular AM2 sockets, I can HIGHLY recommend the Gigabyte M59SLI-S5 boards http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2302

phenoms will work in socket am2 mobos but will use ht v1 instead of ht v3 also you will need a bios update

i have managed to find links for asus (http://event.asus.com/mb/am2_plus/) and msi (http://global.msi.com.tw/html/popup/MB/AM2/page_e.html) mobo's that official support socket am2+ be it natively or via bios update
