I have a Pc I put together from a conglomeration of parts that simply won't let me past the Boot Up Logo Screen. I can't get into the BIOS or get rid of the Logo Screen to see if what or if there are any Error Messages ... :icon_mad:

The funny thing is when I first started the PC up I did manage after a few false tries to install a OS (Winblows 64 Bit) & it did boot into Windows. From there I installed the INF Files for the Motherboard & rebooted the PC which was requesting to be Rebooted for the INF File to take effect.

Thats the last I seen of Windows, I've tried 2 Different PSU's, 2 Different Motherboards, unplugged the CD-Player & Floppy with the same results. I even took the Hard Drive back out and hooked it up to another PC & re-formatted the drive to get rid of the OS in case it was a bad install to begin with. It just boots to the Logo Screen & then just sits there, all the fan's are running though & the Mouse receiver is lit up showing it sees the mouse I guess.

Is it possible the CPU is bad, the last I knew when I took it out and replaced it with a Quad CPU it worked just fine, I was going to try a different one but thought I'd see if you guys had any other things for me to try first before I did that ... :icon_neutral:

Did you try and clear the bios ? Does this board have a jumper, or do you just have to pull the battery for a hour?

I had the Battery out while I was installing the Motherboard, I'll try it again & leave it out for a few hours & see what happens ... :icon_neutral:

can you swap the memory and processor into another mb to narrow the fault down ?

Well I could but it would be a pain in the arse to do that ... :icon_lol: ... It would be easier to just put different memory into the 1 that won't boot up. Then if that doesn't work try a different Processor, I'm going to try those 2 things in a few minutes, I just got back home so I can mess with it a little now ... :)

It's a go for now anyway, I swapped out the Memory with some spare Memory I had and it let me right into the BIOS so I could set it up and I'm at the Set Up Screen to install the OS again right now so I should have it rolling and another 7.6Ghz (2 Core CPU only) crunching away in the next few Hr's if all goes well from here on out.

I didn't really suspect the Memory since it was New but I know it can happen even if Brand New, I'll have to try and RMA it right back to Corsair because I don't want to send it back to where I got it from, they might just send me more bad Memory again ... :icon_mad:

I guess it's a lesson learned if I remember it which I probably won't being a Senior Member of Society ... :icon_lol: ... Try the Memory first when having problems starting a PC up, it's a heck of a lot easier than trying PSU's & Motherboards like I did ... :icon_rolleyes:

I still don't have this Stupid ... :cussing:.. :BangHead: .. :5bomb: ... thing running yet, well it's running but just not running BOINC yet ... :icon_lol: ... Everything seems fine on it except I can't get it to connect to the Internet, a Tray Icon keeps telling me a Network Cable is Unplugged.

It's not unplugged though, the BIOS has the Proper settings for it to work and there's nothing wrong with the Cable or Router, I checked them both on another PC and they worked fine.

The only difference I can see in the Device Manager between this PC and the only other PC I have with the same Motherboard is some sort of Marvell Lan Driver, I've downloaded the Driver and manual installed it several times but it won't show up in the Device Manager.

The Proper Drivers for the On-board LAN should be loaded when I install the Motherboard Drivers but apparently they not being installed or something is wrong with the board ... :icon_mad:

I'll mess with it for a little while longer and if worse comes to worse I'll rip the MBoard out and put a different one in ... :icon_rolleyes:

Do you happen to have a wireless card around? I have one that the onboard lan crapped out on and the card did the trick.

I know that prob! uninstall the standard drivers, then do the manual install thing and windows will recognise your new drivers and you'll be up and running (had the same issue with my amd)

The Problem with the LAN on the ASUS P5N-E SLI Mother Board seems to be quite common and the cure for it according to ASUS is to just install a NIC Card and forget about using the On Board LAN ... :icon_rolleyes:

So thats what I did since I had a few laying around anyway, it's up and running BOINC now a little over 3.6Ghz, it's got more head room but I'm just going to run it at that speed over night and mess a little more in the morning with it. I've had that CPU up to 3.85Ghz running BOINC and even @ 4.0Ghz it managed to Boot to Windows but wasn't quite stable enough to run BOINC.

Not to shabby though for a bunch of parts that were just laying around collecting dust ... :)

And I'm just trying to scrounge some parts together to get my XP2700+ back up running:sad5:

I got my first Credit returns from the ABC Project with the X6800EE & I'm pulling about 165+ Credits Per Hour with it, not bad at all for a 2 Core CPU ... :icon_mrgreen:
