one peta flop per second ~ worlds biggest computer (http://www.our-picks.com/archives/2007/01/17/worlds-biggest-computer/)

i believe it would cost about 30 million to buy and about 10 million per year for electricity (from what i have read) but can we all chip in and get one ? lol :icon_twisted:

Not that big a deal, if we can get a total of 100 members, its 400k $ a person for the first year. if we dress this up nicely we might even get some government backing because we're being a good samaritan (d2ol, etc). Then we just need to go and collect money on the street because we're in desperate need of cash and sympathy then :icon_lol:

the cell processors could run Dnet or folding and the amd's could do everything else ;)

I thought about starting a "swear jar" but we are mostly polite at our house so the machine would be very obsolete by the time I could make a meaningful contribution.

Maybe someone else can help?
Is there an "Ozzy Osborn" in the house?
(My apologies to Ozzy - he is an international treasure:))
Perhaps, someone else can help?

:icon_twisted: AHA! BUSTED! :icon_twisted:

This swear jar is retrospective!
If you have ever sworn, you must donate for every indiscretion.
Swearing "politely" is still swearing.
"@!#$%, oops SORRY!" counts every time.:icon_lol:
According to popular opinion your lifetime contribution will support 20% of the initial outlay of the Grid.
(...ummm...it looks as though I might be up for the other 80% myself!:icon_redface:)

quote: According to the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," the most offensive word in the universe is "Belgium." (from that link of yours)

are you trying to say something here? :icon_lol:

I personally think if we all swear enough the kitty of funds will grow to the point we can actually get back to the subject matter of this post! Which is getting enough funding to build that gizmo Dynamic Dynamite wants to build. So with this swearing coming from who did you say is doing it AMDave? I have not seen any terrible verbose come out from anyone on this post, Like I said who is doing the swearing?

AMDave will now tread lightly when speaking of those of our team mates who live in Belgium, after that last remark! :icon_wink:

So do I still need to hit the streets and sell my man goods to the highest paying women??

I advise a stroll through Hollywood

btw, I say we build a cluster thing ourselves with phenoms or barcies or brisbanes or kentsfields or nehalems.

So do I still need to hit the streets and sell my man goods to the highest paying women??

I don't quite think that's going to cut it. Too many places now arrest women on the streets selling their "womanly goods" along with the shopping public that purchases so named "goods." We are all aware of that old addage of "What's good for the goose is good for the gander." The result of it all would be a decrease in funds available for the building of said "gizmo." So it appears that your efforts to help would in all actuality be a detriment. It would probably be more beneficial for the funding of the gizmo if you would invest the funding that you would spend getting to the street corner to sell your manly goods into the collection jar for the gizmo rather than gas or taxi fare. And if you were really in to the gizmo effort, you could also place the projected saved funds that would be given to the local court system from selling or attempting to sell your purported manly goods, into the gizmo contribution jar which would be a boost to the collections effort.

Collection jar started... So far there is .15 cents in the jar. If I keep up the current pace, we should have the said gizmo in approximately 3000 years, give or take a few years... :icon_razz:

Danish Dynamite

in 3000 years time said gizmo might be less power full then a pocket calculator lol

True....

But just in case... I will write a note to my great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grand children an let them know what said gizmo to get. I would hate for them to get the wrong color or something...
