phenom 9550, 9650, 9700, 9900 will be new model numbers coming out when they do, and since it has been too quite in regards to launch date i am guessing it has been pushed back, basically late last year i heard rumors that these cpu's would launch around middle of march but i have heard nothing of this at this point in time which makes me think it aren't happening also ddr3 mobos are supposed to come out around middle of year maybe might be able to get ddr3 mobo with phenom 9900 .... i cant wait

Perchance they have changed the name to the Vapor CPU. :icon_rolleyes:

:icon_mrgreen:

Beginning to sound like the software used to be.... vaporware. :)

But then might as well take their time. The way the dollar is going, they will have to have a price on it that is gonna shock the amd fans.

I'm starting to think that the Intel Q9300, Q9450 and the Q9550 cpus are vaporcpu's as well... maybe they're all rebranding?

While the reading is nice, it does pose some questions and thoughts. Why put out a triple core in April with B2 stepping, and then do the B3 triple in May? Should have just saved the rollout until May and bypassed the B2 triple.

And of course it begs the question too of why even bring out a triple rather than just use the quad? There can't be that much of a price spread between the triple and the quad one would think. Earlier releases had mentioned that the triple was going to the low end mass producers for their low end products.

All I can say is I hope they can stick to their schedule. AMD needs to get a bit of trust built back up in their release comments and there has been a lot of gas/vapor in the not to recent past.

But anyway, thanks for posting the url as it is an interesting read.

From what I've read the tri-cores are quad-cores with a defective and thus disabled core. Instead of wasting the silicon, might as well recoup some of the cost. Certainly, they'll need to be priced as midrange between the Phenoms and dual-cores.

In regards to not releasing a B2 stepping versus waiting for B3. Well, why don't they wait for G2 stepping? You see how it can be a never ending cycle.

one month earlier is one month of income

One month of income on that B2 processor is chump change in the overall economics of the chip world.

But the main point here is that they could have waited a month and given the customers the improved chip. Sorta like a little "high road" customer relations.

Hello. Sorry for my english but it is very little.
The Phenom B2 have 3 bug very important, but peoples know only 298.
This 2 very important bug make sure 100% -7% of performance.
I hope step B3 clear this bags, but sure only 298 and AMD not speack more.
The step C1, 45nm, sure 10% + of IPC, but is possible buy only next October, november.
Step B4 was for Phenom FX and for clock stock 2,8-3GHz, but AMD I think not commercialize, because TDP is 140W and all mather-board not have power because all under specific of AMD. For this 9700 not commercialized. AMD, for not peoples think platform Spider not good, have prefere not commercialized 9700 for prb TLP at 2,4GHz. This is not true, because one Phenom 9600B.Ed. work good at 2,4GHz and not prb chance moltipler. But < TDP in AMD is problem. I think when OEM change mater-board models with SB700 from SB600, sure > power and sure 9700 is possible buy.
X3 are Phenom X4 with one core fault, but 4th core not is dead. Phenom X4 9100 at 1,8GHz is one Phenom not perfect. The problem in AMD not is die with one core dead, but die with one core not go > 2GHz. For this AMD is possible or make X3 or make X4 at 1,8GHz.
Now AMD think this: X3 to OEM and X4 9100 to peoples. This because one X4 is > price vs X3.
I have wait Cebit at Hannover for know project of AMD, but not news. I have buy from 1 month one Gigabyte 770 DS3 with one 5000+B.Ed. and my think is change with Phenom B3 when possible. I have think this in march, but now I know april.
I not know if I wait... I think buy one 9600B.Ed. and next I wait 45nm.

This is that I know and my opinions, but me not work in AMD :) and possible I wrong.

My question:
You know performances Phenom vs K8 in Seti?
My cpu is 5000+B.Ed. @3,23GHz. Sure Phenom with 4 cores work is best, but I not know performances time for wu, is my cpu = or < or > vs Phenom. Phenom B.Ed. is easy overclock to 2,6GHz, all go 2,6GHz. 2,7GHz is 98%... 2,8GHz 80% and 3GHz 30%.
For you what clock necessary to Phenom for = K8 3,23GHz?
