I have a server as my sig shows.

I've recently managed to get some free hosting for my site so I no longer need the server so I was going to turn it into a HTPC.

Now I'm gonna have to upgrade it a bit to play videos I know...

But is it worth my effort or should I just buy a new system?

Currently it's in this case (http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=3#venus). so I'm not entirely restricted on size. However if I do build another machine, it'll be based on a shuttle (so the same size).

Now I could go with a Via based mini-itx board which I'm not sure would provide enough Ommph to play DVD's, encode music etc? A mini itx board (with CPU) would cost me about £175 for a top range one whilst a low end barebones (ie Shuttle) would cost £150 + AM2 chip. (so about £210)

Anyone got any ideas of what I should do?
