They finally announced that they will soon be releasing an nVidia client that will run on 8xxx series and newer cards. I have been waiting so long for this. They are showing that the new nVidia card that comes out in June runs F@H 5 times faster than a PS3!

Keith please keep us informed when they release this new client. There are lots of Nvidia GPUs in my pharm.

I basically stopped running F@H when the ATI and PS3 clients were released and they performed so much better than the standard CPU clients.

Another good reason for me to upgrade from my 7950 GT :D

Excellent, I'd like to give my 2x 8800gt a workout!

Darn I have 2 6600's not high enough and my board will not see the new versions, time to look at upgrading again ~! :(

I've got an 8500 GT available to try this on.

I've also seen a client out for the 2xxx and 3xxx ATI/AMD GPU's.... I've also learned they will be ending support for the 1xxx GPU's(June 2??). That takes 3 GPU's off line for me. I hope this isn't going to be a trend with GPU clients. My understanding from reading the forums the 1xxx still outperform the ps3. I guess I will retire my PS3 from folding when they drop the 1xxx series GPU's. It may just be to hot this summer to run it anyway. Maybe this fall they will have some real interesting prices on GPU"S that can crunch.

I am pretty sure the new nVidia card is around 3 times faster than the HD3870.

Awesome, I'd love to give folding with my 8800GT a try. :)

Does running Folding via GPU significantly effect running other tasks like Proteins and MJ-12 on the CPU?

The client I used for the 1xxx GPu is more productive if you leave one core to keep the GPU busy. I ran WCG on both cores and it was still able to finish the work units in time. On the 1950 pros I ran it would take about six times longer to finish a work unit if I didn't leave a free CPU core. I don't know if this is still the case with the new client.

Yes even with the new 2xxx and 3xxx gpu core's you have to leave one cpu core free to feed it information. I have read that Stanford is trying to decrease that need ... :)
and work for the gpu1 client will run out this week I think too :(

Woot!

Hello top scores! 163 faster than SMP client :s

It says the client should be out next week. I can't wait to try it out. :)

It's out yesterday evening!

The BETA Client is now available. Go to this (http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=3186) forum thread and read the FAQ before installing. This is still a beta so some things are not functional yet (like visualizations).

Will try it out ASAP on my 8800GT but I choice the wrong week to go home as I wont have internet now (well regular like I need for FAH project) until mid July :(

Looks like I'll be the guinea pig in the team. I'll try it out on my 8800GT. :)
Anyone else wanna join?

EDIT: Just finished my first WU. Everything seems to be running fine so far, despite having Vista 64-bit (apparently it only supports 32-bit). Took 30mins for the WU and my 8800GT peaked at 70 degrees celsius (idles at 50-55 degrees)

Does this run under the BOINC Projects or the DC Projects ... ??? I downloaded the Client & NVidia Driver (Not that I know what to do with it) to see if I could get it running on my 8700M GT Laptop, that's the only Box I have at the moment with a high enough video card to try & run it. I tend to go cheap on the video cards on the Box's I build, their just crunchers so I couldn't see spending a lot of money on the VCards ... :)

half of my box's don't even have cards, just use onboard video.

I can't get the drivers to install. Says I have no products available for this driver, or something like that. I have 2x 8800GTs

I installed this last night on my Vista x64 system with aQ6600 and an 8800GT in it. Not only can I run the GPU version but I am able to also run the SMP version on the processor at a slightly lower priority and get 6800PPD on the machine!

Jeff,

That is because the newest nVidia driver that you have to use for this is only made for the GT200 cards. What you have to do is add your cards to an internal file so that it will install the driver properly. This thread will help you if your running Vista x64 as there is a modded .inf file link mid way down for it that will get rid of your error message and let them install with your 8800GT.

Giving the install a go now. Not sure how quick it'll go etc and when the deadlines are.

It worth running SMP and GPU one? On a main rig?

I was thinking either GPU client + 3 standard instances or GPU + 3 core enabled on BOINC.

I am really jealous, I have 2 6600GT's but can't do anything with them :-(.

It's working :D

45 minutes a unit for 98 points each - 4500 PPD

Supposdely problems with the SMP and GPU client together. I'll try them both when I have 100% internet...now I'm not really online much due to a holiday.

Keith75

I am running both together and having zero problems. Like I mentioned I set the GPU to a slightly higher priority to make sure it gets CPU usage when it needs it.

I'm running Folding@Home on my 8800GT with my Q6600. 3 cores are dedicated to BOINC (Primegrid) with 1 core free. From what I understand, you need a core free for Folding@Home on the GPU to feed it information or something close to that.

So far I'm getting 4980.71 PPD. As I have no clue what PPD means or how it's measured, I don't know if that's a good number for my computer or not. :icon_razz:

Those are some pretty impressive numbers. The ati 1950 pro I had was getting about 600ppd if I left a core open for it. that is a very large improvement :) Good luck with those GPU's
