PrimeGrid’s Challenge Series (http://www.primegrid.com/challenge/challenge.php) continues with the "Back to the Future Challenge (http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=1039&nowrap=true#10575)". It is set to begin in just over a day and a half - 13 Sept and will continue 14 days to the 27th.

This will be a very CPU intensive and demanding Challenge. If that doesn't turn you off, please come take a look and see if you're interested. :) AMD Users is current ranked 45th in the overall Challenge Series team standings (http://www.primegrid.com/challenge/challenge.php#team).

I'll probably put a core in it. Currently busy with SIMAP and LHC@Home WUs. Those WUs don't come that often on those 2 projects. :icon_twisted:

PrimeGrid’s Challenge series (http://www.primegrid.com/challenge/challenge.php) continues with the Prime Time Challenge (14-16 November 2008). It's high time we initiated the new server and what better way to do it than with a Challenge. Also, it's time to return to the thrill of finding primes...and for that, we turn to PrimeGrid's newest project, the Proth Prime Search.

Currently, these tests are rather short so this will also give us a good opportunity to "stress" test and fine tune the new server. The Proth Prime Search is slowly working its way up to the "reportable" prime level in Chris Caldwell's The Largest Known Primes Database! (http://primes.utm.edu/primes/)

So please come join us as we initiate the new server and bring the Proth Prime Search to the "reportable" prime level. For more information, please see this forum thread (http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=1103).

I reckon we should try and organise a big push for this project to boost us in the challenge rankings...what does everyone else think?

The key to an effective prime search is having a good sieve file. For the past several months, our primary focus has been on getting the PPS Sieve deep enough to start LLRing. While we have made great strides in this effort, we still need more help. Leading up to this Challenge, anyone with a 64 bit multiple core system is encouraged to join the Proth Prime Search (PPS) sieving effort. Please see this post (http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=973&nowrap=true#9505) if you are interested.

http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=1138#11995 PrimeGrid's Challenge series (http://www.primegrid.com/challenge/challenge.php) continues with the Winter Solstice Challenge. Please come join us in observing Nature's ending/beginning of a cycle. A 4 day (96 hour) Challenge is being offered on PrimeGrid's Prime Sierpinski Project (Sieve) application. To participate in the Challenge, please select only the Prime Sierpinski Project (Sieve) project in your PrimeGrid preferences (http://www.primegrid.com/prefs.php?subset=project) section. The challenge will begin 17 December 2008 12:04 UTC and end on the Winter Solstice 21 December 2008 12:04 UTC. Application builds (http://www.primegrid.com/apps.php) are available for Linux 32 & 64 bit and Windows 32 & 64 bit. Note: 64 bit Windows and 64 bit Linux benefit from a 1.7X speed advantage over 32 bit...so 1.7X the credit. :)

There's the last one of the year. Everyone need to help out AMD Users in the one. A short run with good credit. From personal experience, I can verify the 64 bit advantage, so ...

Yup, just check the christmas contest stats on my sig people. Everyone on PSP Sieve with a 64bit OS is on fire. :icon_wink:
I don't think there's any other project granting more credits per hour than this.

I am running my test units today and running down whatever else I can.
Like their forum post says, please do your client downloads in advance so the server doesn't get hammered on the start day.

Test shows that the normally fast Wintel-32 is really rubbish at this.
The C2D E6300 can actually run Linux-x86_64, but I will have to put up with it as it is my son's gaming machine.
I just know he's going to complain about the game-lag.
Oh well. Too bad. :icon_razz:

The rest of the boxen are on fire, including ye olde Duron which lives to sieve.

/ed - wow. the AM2+ Phenom (Linux AMD64) smashes these wu's - ed/

2 points of note:

1) she runs hot so watch your temps

2) if you have not started your preparation yet, get to it.
1/2 of the available WUs were gulped down into caches this afternoon (AEST).
Seeing this trend I have grabbed a decent quota.
Remember to run a work unit or two before grabbing a bunch of work so your completion estimates are established first.
That way you should avoid getting much more or less than your machine can handle.

25 hours to go.

Are you ready?

taken from the Challenge thread (http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=1138),

Scores will be kept for individuals and teams. Only work units issued AFTER 17 December 2008 12:04 UTC and received BEFORE 21 December 2008 12:04 UTC will be considered for credit. Since this is a fixed credit project, we'll be using cobblestones for scoring.

do they hold up to this? would seam we DON'T want a large cache before the start.

Congrats on another 10^6 vaughan.:)

meshmar has clocked in 50K
and Liuqyn flew past 300K. 400K by tomorrow morning and close to 500K tomorrow night I think.

txt.file has my back to the wall!

Great numbers all.

73 hours to go.

Thank you for noticing Dave. :)
You'll be pleased to know I switched the Opty165 from WEP-M+2 to PG as its running Ubuntu 64 at the moment. Doomeva might run some WEP (if he remembers :icon_rolleyes: ). Only one core of his Wolfdale is on Wieferich now until the PG Summer/Winter Solstice event is concluded.

Yes great numbers from Team AMD Users.

I wonder where jamers got to? We need him for the PrimeGrid challenge to keep some of the heavy hitting teams in line. :)

I only wish I had been home for the start, was about 6-8 hours in before I started getting points due to my old wu's running out first.

Almost all of the backlog of pending credit is processed.

It looks like we have secured 10th place out of the field of 263 teams that contributed during the challenge.

Big pats on the back and handshakes all around.

Well done everyone.

That was a blast!

PS - check out the difference between 1st and 2nd place. Geez that is close!

I agree it was a great race. It was a good feeling to let the CPUs all crunch in unison on one project. Really cleared out the cobwebs in the 'puters. :icon_wink:

Hey even the Shuttle box [Q6600] had fun getting overclocked to 80C. So much for ICE cooling it was closer to Steam cooling. :icon_mrgreen:
