I received this today, and thought i'd share it with the group:
From: boinc@qcn-web.stanford.edu
Subject: Problem (and fix) for Quake Catcher Network / BOINC error
Message: Hello,
Recently we discovered a limitation in the BOINC software that does not allow for a preference file above a certain size, and a recent spate of earthquakes in Alaska has made our "historical earthquake list" file bigger than the BOINC maximum size (64 kilobytes).
This has now been fixed in BOINC & QCN, but it's possible that your computer's BOINC/QCN may be 'hanging' due to this problem. You can check your "trigger page" in BOINC -- if there have been no reports in a few days, you may have this problem. In any case, it is safe to do the following workaround, you will simply reconnect/reattach to the QCN project.
The workaround is as folllows:
1) quit BOINC completely (i.e. not just "minimized")
2) locate the "offending" file named 'account_qcn.stanford.edu_qcnalpha.xml' -- this is located for....
a) Mac OS X: /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data
(i.e. navigate from "Finder" to your root disk, then Library, then Application Support, then BOINC Data, and select/drag to trash.
Alternatively use a "Finder" window to search for the filename:
account_qcn.stanford.edu_qcnalpha.xml
b) Windows: the default location is usually "c:\program files\boinc" however with newer versions of boinc it may be in a separate directory. Or do a file search for:
account_qcn.stanford.edu_qcnalpha.xml
3) delete this file, i.e. drag to the Trash Can/Recycle Bin
4) restart BOINC
5) you will then need to re-attach to:
http://qcn.stanford.edu/qcnalpha
...and enter your email address/password to reconnect to QCN
Thanks for your cooperation and in participating in the QCN Alpha Test project, and sorry for the inconvenience!
To opt out of future emails from QCN Alpha Test, please edit your project preferences at http://qcn.stanford.edu/qcnalpha/prefs.php?subset=project
EDIT - Subject is wrong, I got the C and N the wrong way round :iamwithstupid:
