I am coming back to BOINC after a long Hiatus, Once my 100T is done in SoB. I am going to return to work on BOINC some more! You know I can change my mind between now and then but then again I need some harassment to preoccupy my time lately...:icon_lol:

We're closing on the heels of our buddies the Arsians and their 14th slot. They must have pulled over for a rest top. :icon_wink:

Wish I had more CPUs to help stomp some Arsians but I'm just about maxed out. Will see what I can find in the attic tomorrow.

I've added a couple boxen .. :icon_lol:

We just passed them and took 13th place !!

I wonder if BOINC projects could run on a GPU like Folding@Home does?

mitchellds
09-02-2008, 12:22 AM
yup, you could run boinc on GPU w/linux with the ps3grid@home project like bender does.

mitchellds

I guess we drove over some ARS toes as we whizzed by them recently asleep at the boinc rest stop. :icon_wink:

They're talking about a rally back.... read below.

Thats a lot of commenting, I think you made them notice after you ran over them with that train you have at your whim! Making them whimper again ey Mitchellds?

I am closer then I was last time I posted on this post. Soon I will return and help on this milkyway project. Remember I only have two systems, no pharm for me!

I've thrown some coals in the fire and jumped back on, even though I've already hit 100k. We're so close to Free-DC, and if Ars wants to put up a fight, I think I would like to help in this "PUSH". :icon_twisted:

I'd like to help but Madmadiger is really pushing me hard in UCT: Malaria and I don't want to give up on Wieferich @ Home.

Two more mobos ordered (Asus Rampage Formula) just waiting on all the other parts to arrive. :icon_wink:

how many machines will that make Vaughan?

We just took 11th place !!!

mitchellds
09-03-2008, 03:43 AM
I guess we're stuck in 11th indefinitely behind TeAm AnandTech (http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/team_display.php?teamid=77) unless we can put more horses on this project. We're behind by approx 500k and plus we're shy of matching their daily output by 10k. :(

That is unless it really is broken? 802 blocks left on one core in seventeen and then I am done on that system. The other system has a ways to go till finished. Probably Monday afternoon if my calculations are correct for the other system.

Currently working on Mystery Machines ! :sad5:

Here I am all ready to work in BOINC and someone broke the project. OR should I blame the Arsians for that? IF not this project where should I place my CPu's?

I think it's fixed now. The server shows tasks ready, and my boxes are talking to it (although I thinks mitchellds confusers are on better terms with it than mine..:icon_mrgreen:..).

I certainly liked milkyway better when it was running the short workunits. These new ones take longer and have only a two day deadline. The margin for error on slower computers isn't very much. Can't complain about the credits once they finally report!

mitchellds
09-08-2008, 12:28 AM
yup its been pretty good for me, except for a couple minor glitches. I see those ARS boincers are trying to play ketchup with us. :)

thread from their board below:

"The stage is set for the battle (http://boincstats.com/stats/team_stats.php?pr=milkyway&st=0) between ARS, AMD Users, and Anandtech. Contibute to this (un)folding event and help us climb. Anandtech has a significant daily points contribution, but I know we can make them look over their shoulder! Contribute some cpu time and let's make this happen!"

vaughan
09-08-2008, 07:31 AM
I like to annoy the Arsians when I can seeing as they are never afraid of stomping on us when they see a chance. My motto has always been to stand up to bullys. If they had any sense they'd join a friendly team like ours instead of constantly plotting which team they crush next.

mitchellds
09-10-2008, 02:20 AM
Ok, the time is now !!

if you can spare some cpu cycles this way, it would be appreciated for putting down the ARSian uprising. They are trying to punk us in this project. Anybody here like that? I know I don't. :icon_twisted:

We moved into 10th place past TeAm AnandTech (http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/team_display.php?teamid=77) recently, but the ARS bubba's are out to catch us sleeping. They are only 50k behind us now, and really trying to catch us.Interestingly enough, we both have 37 team members. Any more of our guys want to make a showing?

the below is what they just wrote on their site,

"This (http://boincstats.com/stats/team_stats.php?pr=milkyway&st=0) is interesting. Over the weekend, the AMD Users reported 199,667 coblestones of work, while the ARS team (us) reported 199,959 cobblestones of work. Although they still lead us by a small amount, we generated 292 cobblestones more than them and that will help us catch and pass them. It may be slow, but if we put enough inertia into this we'll do it. The point here is that all contributions count. If they had just 6 more people contributing only 50 units each over the weekend, then that production slope would be in another direction. So if you're reading this and think that you can't produce enough to help, think again. Every contribution moves us towards the goal. We just have to pile them up faster than they do! http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif"

just hold them off until I get home on the weekend, Then I'll switch over and help out.

it would seam that Team Norway is putting up a fight with me on PSP Proth, so I won't be moving all my comps over here, but will move several. still waiting for the weekend though.

Better late than never. Glad you made it Liuqyn (http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/show_user.php?userid=129) !! We're just holding on to almost a 100k ahead of ARS. I wonder how much longer they'll hang around these parts of the Milkyway?

I see the improvements in team RAC over the last couple of days ! Yesterday we improved by around 20k

Thanks Bender10, Liugyn, Nflight, Vaughan, and sentient_life to name of couple of you.

We're pulling away from those ARS bubba's with a 200k lead now. I guess we dashed they're hopes since they couldn't bridge the gap on us. Put that in your team vault stats :icon_wink:

We haven't had a monthly PUSH project for awhile, so Milkyway certainly fits the bill! Hopefully, we should be seeing more of our Northern Hemisphere members ramping up with Autumn and cooler temps approaching. Although, with the poor economy taking out a lot of people's investments/retirement, we may not see much quad-core purchasing...

Thanks !!

This project has been good to a lot of people :icon_wink: as it keeps on pushing out all the wu's we can handle. That helps big time.

Any gains I have accomplished are due to my 'lack' of monkeying around with my confusers. I have been working ~14/7 for the last month. At this pace, I have not felt like doing any more than just peeking at the forum and 're-booting' any wayward confuser that I notice is having problems ( :sad5: mainly PS3Grid stuff).

Anyway, Back to :qleft2: work. My boss let me sleep in this morning so I could mow the lawn (it's raining) and do a trash run to the 'Transfer Station'. Then it's back to the salt mine, er...something like that. I'm working outside actually.

Oh, and it's getting cooler :5cold: here in the evenings, so the heat from the Dungeon is a little more welcome now than it was this summer...:icon_mrgreen:

I know the feeling of work in the excess. My Time is precious and my off time non-existent. Last night was my first away from the overwhelming load of stuff to do on my desk. The temps are getting chillier here.

Milkyway has been good to me too, I bounced over many hurdles and even put on some points leads I had not had before. NO problems except one system that won't down load more then 2 work units at a time or my average would be higher.

Pulled my back and left side of my neck so now i look like the hunchback of Notre Dame, at least the systems on Milkyway give me no fuss! Nice BOINC Project.

Thanks to you all, I broke another project past the 200k mark. I didn't think I'd be going back to Milkyway, until I'd brought several other projects up to 100k. With a certain other team breathing down our necks (having now fallen back, demoralized by our greatness :icon_wink:), I knew I couldn't stand by without helping in the fight!
