as the topic say... not much left on the main goals of the project. end date fluctuates between Nov 1 and Nov 25...

we may be able to push from 21st to 17th, maybe 16th...

dare i ask how many machines you have, Liuqyn?? you're kicking my butt! >_< and if it IS 18-19, how much is your power bill??

liuqyn
10-20-2009, 08:26 PM
I try not to think about that. and it would be more but 5 of them are sharing time on cosmology@home and I didn't have the heart to abort their wu's, but did set no new tasks.

as far as number of hosts go, they're not hidden....:icon_twisted:

as a side note, I forgot how crappy credit was on this project so I can't wait for it to be over so I can resume my other endeavors.

no more OCing for me... i'm just undervolting, as of late. current extreme undervolt is to tide me over til i'm less in debt and a better selection of HSFs are out for the socket type.

The estimated finish date of the project has varied one or two days lately but it's fixed at November 9th.

We got 1 week's worth of WU's only guys. If anyone wants to do one last push at this, or just increase their credits count or rank (I got up to the Team top 20 already :icon_mrgreen:) now is the time! :)

everyone push as hard as you can! at current rate, we can probably do lucky 13th place. with a hard push, maybe 11th. and a "drop everything and everyone crunch" push, 10th...

edit: sadly, i dropped some points yesterday, due to some lock up. after disabling gigabyte's vdroop option, voltage dropped. whereas i couldn't even boot at 0.999 WITH it on, i crunched for at least 24-48 hours at 0.991 volts (according to cpu-z)...

gamer007: weird, i'm pulling work in ubuntu and windows

edit2: i've had to wait for 1-2 server queries after it pulled the binaries for the project

It looks like its working now. No clue why it wasn't giving me work then, but I'm getting some now.

Guess it's finished for now, but there will be more soon :)

November 16, 2009
The server is out of work, for two reasons: the M4 server is out of work, because the awgly keyspace is finished (http://www.bytereef.org/m4-project-stats.txt). Also, I was going to run one of the other known unbroken messages while waiting for Stefan Krah to update the M4 server, but unfortunately during the last few hours one of the BOINC server's hard drives failed.
Luckily nothing seems to be damaged except one table which contains unimportant log data, but until I'll fully diagnose and fix the problem, I'm taking all the daemons offline.
It's also possible that later today I'll shutdown the server to replace the drive.

I thought I would stop in and noticed the Project is still going full bore. That stoppage was temporary I suppose. Well here I am once again re-starting an old post from EoN's again. So I decided to re-energize my position as it seems I am now in 59th gawd awful place. Lets see If I can rummage up some new cruncher activity on this old forgotten project! :blob3: Too Bad Liuqyn won't be responding anymore, that was a shame he just left us and never returned... :(

I have decided since this project is on point in supplying Work units and they provide good returns in points, to push to 25M on this project. With additional help we may push our standings even higher than they are now!

You've bought yourself a nice GPU it seems, as this project is now heavily centered on CUDA and OpenCL.
My poor Raspberries, which I used for Enigma for so long, are now doing WEP-M+2...

Enigma has gotten some serious horsepower with NeoGen and myself screaming full out at the moment. Sure I am behind because I wanted to finish my previous projects goals when you passed me full tilt. So why not take this project all the way to 100 Million each, are you with me NeoGen? :blob3:

vaughan

I had to drop back a few versions of Nvidia driver otherwise I got immediate "Computation error".

I just kept on downloading and installing the older drivers until I got one that worked with each machine. They were all Win 7 64.

Nflight

At the moment I have removed all versions till I got at least Moo Wrapper to work at this time. All other GPU WU's fail. Eventually the others will adjust to the new Drivers and I will once again be able to join the foray. As for falling back to different versions I could not find previous drivers as all are removed when installing new ones. I AM NOT A HAPPY CAMPER... :sad5:

They have GPU units! And they're better with AMD (http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/results/projet.py?projet=Enigma%40Home&application=Enigma+Cuda)

are they done? (on the GPU side) ...been sitting for 8 hours with no work on both an Nvidia and AMD

NeoGen
05-08-2018, 12:49 AM
I think not, I got plenty of GPU workunits for Enigma.... oops, I might have accidentally hogged them all :icon_lol: :icon_mrgreen:

But no, I think the site is just slow, you might have to keep trying, even manually refreshing if needed, and make sure you have a large buffer when you finally get them. Even just visiting the site half the times I get a 503 Service Unavailable error on the browser.

According to their Server Status page (http://www.enigmaathome.net/server_status) (which only loaded after 3 tries) they have millions of available WUs for GPU.

Plus also check BOINCs event log, BOINC may sometimes not download if it feels that it's buffer is already full or it's "not the highest priority project".

Actually no... it was me, I did a little blunder here with my home firewall settings and lost connection for a while until I figured out the problem.
Well, kind of, I didn't actually figure out the problem, I just removed it for the time being. I tried using Squid as transparent proxy and for a little bit it was working but it crashed somehow, and I couldn't get it back up and running. I'll have to try again some other day.

still haven't figured it out. i thought it might have been space, too, as well, so i got up to 10GB free, but that didn't help, either

edit: i've tried with a Haswell with 1060 3GB with no older than 6 month drivers, Nehalem with HD7790 1GB with 14.12 drivers (newest i can install on Server 2007 R2), 2400G with 2GB reserved for GPU newest or second newest drivers (has worked for 1M points on MW@Home)

edit2: just realized Nvidia had > 100GB free

plonk420
05-13-2018, 06:01 AM
NEEEEVER MIND, figured it out. have to use "test applications" -_-

edit: new concern: HD7790 seems to have returned 3+ results so far, and none are showing up on the site, whereas 2 Nvidia ones have. hopefully it's just a weird lag? not entirely sure...

edit2: nevermind again, it seems it just took almost an hour for the AMD units to show up :I

edit3: wow, i just realized i started this thread quite a long time ago. even if i do a quick burn, seems i may pass Liuqyn, who blew my doors off at the start of the thread! :D

Congratulations Plonk420 welcome to the foray, glad things worked themselves out! Sometimes those who look at every angle solve their own problems then trying to describe the problem to all of us and hope you understand the simplicity most problems usualy are. Glad its working for you, NeoGen would like to take this Team effort to 20th place but I think with the new help (you kind sir) we should be able to hit and maintain 18th place pretty easy.

it's probably not going to be a longterm GPU project... i prefer ones with a tangible but also useful goal like Einstein or Milkyway. but hopefully we can get somewhere with a bit of a push!

and to think it took CPU months or years for me to get to 414K points or so... and less than a day to get that with GPUs :D

NeoGen
06-06-2018, 10:44 PM
Oh yes, I saw that too... that is going to be a BEAST! 32 cores, 64 threads, and 250W TDP :icon_mrgreen:

There will be a motherboard/chipset refresh but the CPU is socket compatible, it does not require a new motherboard if you already have a 1st Gen ThreadRipper, the only thing is those 250W ones may just run at spec or have limited overclocking on older motherboards because of the amount of power draw.

Dirk Broer
06-06-2018, 11:58 PM
Those that invested in MSI (10+3 powerphases) or Asrock (11 powerphases) TR4 motherboards are in luck, it seems...
Asus and Gigabyte (with their 8+2 powerphases) might be more of a problem when tied to a 250 Watt tdp CPU.

damn, my 7790 JUST died just before i was going to overtake Beerknurd! and no GCN2 cards pre-Dec 2014 with 900-1000 shader units for sale new (can't install drivers after that date on the machine it needs to go into)

it had a nice GPU cooler, too... :/

Died? What OS are you running? Win 10 has the nasty habit to replace the perfectly crunching AMD drivers with non-crunching Windows drivers,
Ubuntu variants will only display video on the HD 7790 since version 18.04. For a fully working HD 7790 under Ubuntu you need a pre-version 16.04 Ubuntu.
How do I know? Have one too: http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?ct=articles&action=file&id=2716

But it might have crapped out like my HD 7750 once did: "I can not display resolution X x Y, over-and-out"

plonk420
06-20-2018, 10:40 PM
Server 2007 R2... trust me, drivers are ok in this case. i can't install anything newer than 14.12 (i spent a few hours maybe a year or so ago installing 2-3 drivers per year to see if ANY would install, but none would, even with clean install selected when available) so those haven't changed.

the more telling thing is beep codes indicate a VGA issue (won't even post). and it DOES boot with an ancient GT9400 i had laying around (and fully operational with drivers installed).

still holding off reinstalling Windows, so i'm going GT730 w/GDDR5 and probably extending the warranty to 10 years as i didn't see any new 7000 or 200 series at Amazon or Newegg.

Sorry to hear about your GPU. It's sad to see a good number cruncher go. :(
I only remember having a GPU die on me once, and I kick myself for it every time I remember it. I was playing around with open computer case, tools and screws laid around and on top of it, while the machine was powered on and running. I needed to test a hard drive real quick but didn't want to power off, mount it, etc, so I took the quick route and tried to reach an empty SATA port with a cable deep in the case, but to reach it and plug it I had to use a screwdriver because I couldn't reach it with my fingers. In the blink of an eye my whole machine powered off right on the spot. And then I noticed the unthinkable, my screwdriver touched the back of the graphics card PCB which has those solder points all over, and it short-circuited it, effectively frying it.
In retrospect I believe I was very lucky to have only lost the graphics card, I can imagine it going real bad in many different ways when electricity is in the mix... but I learned my lesson.

plonk420
06-23-2018, 10:20 PM
ouch! hopefully it wasn't a flagship GPU...
