I thought i saw them shortly after the launch date. I guess I should have mentioned that was a while back. I haven't seen any lately. I didn't see any at bestbuy today either.

They don't have them in stock yet, But this place has an expected ship date of Oct. 27, and is $30 cheaper than newegg :)http://www.antaresdigital.com/customer/product.php?productid=18344&cat=518&page=1

TSMC has a damn low yield-rate again. Something about 40%. So don't wonder if the cards are not available.
Are there already boinc-benchmarks with the fancy 5000-series?

i've got this thread on anandtech's board:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=326145
(and yes, you should leave the post there so that i can get closer to a "most read" post on their boards... after all, it's all about post quality, not quantity ;) (and yes, i guess that would make this post suck ;)

btw, mitchell, you should pitch in for a last enigma@home run ;)

what is the last run trying to solve? So they still have some unsolved original nazi messages? how long do they quess-timate the last run to go for?
As a side note, a couple of years ago, I saw one of the original enigma machines being sold on ebay. (actually, there is one there now http://cgi.ebay.com/WWII-GERMAN-LUFTWAFFE-CIPHER-MACHINE-Enigma-Replacement_W0QQitemZ150385717533QQcmdZViewItemQQp tZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2303aff11d)
Would have been cool to own a piece of history like that. It has been estimated that 100,000 Enigma machines were constructed

all i have is copy pasta: "Enigma@Home is a wrapper between BOINC and Stefan Krah's M4 Project. The M4 Project is an effort to break 3 original Enigma messages with the help of distributed computing. The signals were intercepted in the North Atlantic in 1942 and are believed to be unbroken."
i'm not sure if we're in the last days of the last message or last "keyspace" or something
edit: maybe see last post: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/122097561/m/850003558931

That was some interesting reading from that URL Nflight. :-) However, even if the 58xx were available like bubblegum in a candy store, I wouldn't have the spare bux to buy one. Maybe if wages were keeping up with the inflation rate, but that isn't happening. So, lots and lots of people aren't buying like they used to. :icon_rolleyes:

5970s are about AUD1,000 here. I'm sure I could buy a cheaper hair-dryer/BBQ/power broom. Maybe ATI and Nvidia need to supply some noise cancelling headphones with their GPU cards?

Yup, would sure be nice to have one. However there is a LOT of other things in this world that I would like too, that cost less than this gpu............... :icon_rolleyes:

agree, thats just to pricey for my blood. The 5850's are plenty enough IMO.

This looks interesting. http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/17158/1/
It would be cool to one day have a external rack of RAIG (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Graphic), as opposed to the RAID we already know about (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks)
Maybe using the new high speed USB 6.0 standard as communications transport between the RAIG and the pc platform would be a cool idea. This would remove the limiting number of PCIX slots per pc, wouldnt that be cool to have a stacked expandable array of GPU's. With these puppies external to the pc, alot of heat and power problems could be solved more easily.

Brilliant idea. The case seems to trap the heat generated by the CPU amd the GPUs inside; then you need fans to expel the heat so that makes more noise. Having a RAIG would be great.
Maybe we need to rename the site AMD and ATI Users. :)
My experience with the new XFX 5850 is that its more efficient at earning points than similarly priced Nvidia GPUs, it runs cooler and uses less power. That's a Win Win Win. :icon_wink:

yup, the ATI cards are much more efficient than the Nvidia ones. Use less power. Nvidia writes better drivers though. :-) But ATI is improving. I've taken all my nvidia offline due to the power and heat issue. About all nvidia seems to be keeping up with ATI in now is price! LOL har har har........................... :-)

Vaughan stated a while back that we should be called AMD and ATI Users. Here is a link to a statement that says Moore's law is dead! Now moving on to GPU's for better computing in the years ahead.
http://www.dailytech.com/NVIDIA+VP+Declares+Moores+Law+Dead+GPUs+Are+Comput ings+Only+Hope/article18279.htm I find the article humorous as the person who is writing it is seriously infatuated with Intel but, none the less it drives you back to this post that in our thinking some 9 months ago we were right in thinking that in the near future only GPU's will rain supreme. And since we know ATI is the better company with way better products we know who will rain supreme in the long run! muh ha ha :blob3:

As with most things, it is all dependent on what your reference point is. If for instance you are talking RC5-72, then yes, ATI's reign supreme, however you can say the same if you are talking folding@home as nvidia is the gpu card in that world. It's just like the old intel vs amd thing, when in reality it depends what you are working on as they each have their strengths and weaknesses. So really, one needs to qualify what one gpu is better at since neither one is better at everything just like with cpu's. :-)
