ototero, can you sign our team up for this challenge please? I'm sure we have enough members who are interested to give it a go.

I have 32 cores already on it, and a handful more waiting for the light to change. :) I believe Jason has a few more than I do even, so yes we are in. :icon_thumright:

The Enigma@home project is about to finish in a few days, so by November 16th I'll have my 3 cores on this too. :)

am i good to just start crunching whenever? or do i have to wait until start time?

...so i think i'll only do Help Defeat Cancer. plus i think it uses less memory than Rosetta@Home. i raided my i7-920 of memory for my 860 so i could game while i waited for memory to arrive. 3gb -> 1gb. now it's up to 2 (4gb in the 860). HOPEFULLY 2gb is enough to do DC and encode video...

I would say you can start crunching any time, but only the results validated within the allotted time will count for the race. It does take a little time to build up your cache in WCG, it seems once you get a few valid results, it allows you a few more in your cache, so the sooner the better I guess. :icon_wink:

I couldn't find a link to enter our team in the contest, that's why I asked ototero to do it; maybe the team captain has extra fields visible?

My quad is running but my son took back his monitor ( my spare ) so my opteron 180 isn't running yet. Trying to find a decent and yet inexpensive KVM switch.....

Try a software solution like Logmein or even good old Remote Desktop.

Anyone with experience on WCG knows if there's a subproject that gives more credits / WU or per hour? or what projects are best for 32 or 64bits OSes?
This info would come in handy to give us a boost. :)

Vaughan, can I boot up the computer without a monitor and still get in with remote desktop ? Or do I first have to enable it beforehand ? My spare box has XP pro and my main computer has Vista business.

NeoGen

Yup, you can have any computer boot up without a monitor and still be fully functional locally (blind people have no need for monitors :icon_razz:) or remotely. :)
The only thing I'm not sure is about PC's with more than 1 gfx cards on them, I remember hearing something that the secondary gfx card had to have a monitor attached at bootup for cuda to work or something like that... it's rumours I've heard but I can't confirm or deny.

I have found of the projects still running, Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy is one of the better points projects, in both 32 and 64 bit, Nutritious Rice is probably second. Hope that helps :)

the stats from wcg (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProjects.do) i say that HCMD has the highest ppd. but it could be that HCMD just has the fastest volunteer-PC.

Did you also notice that YUNA challenge is based on No. of results returned, and not points? In case anyone is wondering why the numbers are so low.

We are still doing great on the 5th birthday challenge, we're ranked 12th out of 159 teams as of the last update. Only 1 more day to go I think.

And on the YUNA challenge we are unstoppable. #1 and with a large distance. :)

FINISHED!!! :blob3:

Thanks to everyone that participated for our Team, we achieved rank 12th out of 159 teams. This was a fierce challenge with some very strong teams. I was hoping we could reach top 10, but even so I think we did great. :)

Now don't forget about the YUNA challenge in which we're currently running too (and #1 so far! :icon_mrgreen:) and the December challenges that will begin in about a week from today.

I broke off my personal attempt and selfish behavior to help the TEAM out. I am now crunching Muscular Dystrophy Part II. I sure would like to keep our Team in the #1 place current scores look like this!
